definately ditch the 3500+ for a 3000+. If you werent planning on overclocking the 3000+ will reach 3500+ speeds guranteed and if you were then theyll both overclock the same.
    My 3000+ does 2.7GHz with an xp-120.

I agree with shopping around. Ocuk are very expensive and customer service is appaling. The shops a s**t hole too.

I was gunna get an x800xl but then i saw the x850xt pe for just £30 more! mmmmmm
Im starting to like the idea of getting cheaper parts and upgrading sooner, (esp the next gen of graphics).
I can get a 3200+ for £130, (can find it OEM for me to get my own HSK for OC(well i could)

I have just realised, ill buyn extra things when i want to , so ill get one optical drive, and not a fan controller, and just add as i want, cause its not covered by any bloody warrenty!

Recent winchesters have got weak mem controllers on them and not been doing as well as the older winchesters (my first 3500+ won't run at stock at all without 1.7v! or current 3200+ won't run stock at 1T only 2T)
Well I just tested a 3200+ Winchester made 0512 that is the fastest Winny I've ever tested. Also, we don't have any idea how the Venice will overclock. They have more features and may very well be the worst overclockers yet. We'll know soon but right now we don't.

People r telling me to get an x800xl when the x850 xt pe is just £30-£40 more

If i used this with a 3500+ would the CPU be a bottle neck, it just seems to be the best value to me.

I will use my PC for gaming photoshop (quite a bit for school) and of course internet office etc

I think it all lies on the GPU people, x850xt pe for £260 or x800xl for £200 or 6800 vanilla £140
( I think i will be getting a 3500+ venice, how much more will the other ones with the 1mb cache be?)

X850 for that money is definite a deal, you can save money on future upgrade because you can wait those "future" stuff go down in price. And X850 is more than enuf for the next 2 years or so.

I would go either 3700+ San Diego core (extra cache should help with photoshopping) and an X800XL or 3500+ Venice and X850XT PE but me I would go for the 3700+ and X800XL and should preform within a few FPS of each other.

I prefer 1mb cached CPUs in general, I always feel that windows is smoother and just feels a more robust solution, I personally can't wait for the 3700+ S'Diegos to hit mainstream

1MB CPUs are faster for sure. Just not sure how well the San Diegos will overclock.

Or alternatively go even cheaper & get a gig of the new TwinMos PC3500 BH5 for £96, cos with that board you can put the volts it needs (3.4-3.6v) through it to run a fairly high fsb (250+) with tight timings.

    xms 3200C2 isnt TCCD afaik

So, would it be better to get a 3800+ and an x800xl, so it would not be so bottle necked with next gen?

Ah it seems we have more details on venice, we will be getting them in about a week. Whats better, the 3700 with the 1mb cache or the 3800 with 512? The 3700+ seems to be cheaper.

@nvening: depend on what you do really, 1Mb can significantly increase performance in some softwares, like Office or PS, afaik.
