Here is how I would order cooling solutions based on least cost for a new system with very high end compnents for which cpu, gpu, nb etc.. need new heatsinks:

    DIY w/c (under £50)
    commercial air
    commercial w/c
    DIY waterchiller using compressor
DIY phasechange (move up to top *if* you can find a suitable compressor and know what your doing)
    Commercial phasechange
    TECs.

In order of performance (based on how much the enabled overclock will increase performance in games. GPU counts for about 5x or more than cpu for games, although for encoding video etc. cpu would obviously favour cpu overclock):

    DIY phasechange
    TECs
DIY waterchiller using compressor (and not TECs)
    Commercial phasechange
    Commercial w/c
    DIY w/c (under £50)
    commercial air

Commercial p/c being crap becuase they are cpu only.

Both TECs and compressors (not so much 12v ones) use up a largish chunks of power, so elec. bill aswel..

Water is great to drink but sucks for use in computers unless you just can't figure out anything else to do with all of that free time.

    Kez,

I never said you can't put water on your hardware. I only said it doesn't accomplish anything that I consider valuable.

Water cooling obviously. At least I assume it's jealousy, the alternatives are much less flattering to you.

I get the impression he is rich/spoilt and could get any kind of cooling he wants. So im afraid its not jealousy.

Go speak to some guys at O-CuK and see some real results of overclocking with water. They know how to do it and it's very effective. Even the most expensive kit is about half the price of a phasechange unit (well, a new one anyway). Obviously Phasechange is more effective, but it's also very expensive.

You've obiously only ever seen DIY kits poorly done or those cheap and poor Globalwin kits or the like. If you were to see the results of even the basic DangerDen parts put together you wouldn't have made those comments.

Watercooling can be done quite cheaply if you can scavange certain parts. Like taking a radiator from a car.

There's more to watercooling than just throwing money at it.

Very true, but you dont need any of those things if you can throw money at it.

That bench was months ago but I believe I was running 660/612. The RAM on that card really sucked. The card was on roomtemp water. I can run the same clocks on air with that card. My 24/7 clocks are 620/600 on that rig with aircooling. Also my RAM was trash.

Here's a challenge. Anybody want to take me up on it?

Build any water-cooled system you wish. Tell me how much you spent and bench it with the benchmark(s) of your choosing. I'll build an air-cooled system for less money and I'll kick your arse in the benchmarks as well.

    So who wants some?

Not chance, a water cooling would win hands down, be 100% silent and cost around £30. As long as you didn't want it to be portable.

    Was that at stock voltage?
