Thats the 1up article on the PS3 multicore info.
But if you check the www.unrealtechnology.com website, I belive they tstate that UE3 is multicore compatyible.

There's a big difference between a multi-core gaming console and dual-core PC support. They are completely different markets. Since most PCs will NOT be multi-core for quite some time I don't see any reason at all for multi-threaded games. Dual-core CPUs are marketed at the same people dual CPU machines are. I am confident it will be at least three or four years before multi-threaded games appear, and they will be few and far between at that.
Wasn't Quake 2 (or maybe 3) multi-threaded?

is the above link a san diego chip?
Yes.

Looks like another good price (albeit OEM), maybe we should move this thread to the bargains forum. Im very interested to see if the first site i found is genuine.
Quake 3 was multi-threaded, along with about 20 other PCs game out of thousands.Originally Posted by Nox
Cheers for the advice lads, not building til sept as i have gotta save and sell the current set up to buy the bits for this one. If i can find a 4400+ for around £350 then might go that route as i want to future proof this system for at least a few years (missed nforce 4 and pci e by a month or so with current set up ) Anyone tried out that website on page 1 yet could take about £150 off my project by using them

The fastest possible system for games is the fastest single/ dual core 1 MB job that you can overclock. single core all over clocks faster right?
the question is , would a single and a dual running at the same speed be the same for games currently or would the memory subsystem of a single even defeat the dual core.?

Point proven - they did it then, why not nowOriginally Posted by oralpain

Also, in gaming things like graphics cards have much more to do with game performance than CPU, especially with DX9 games. Even if games are written for multi-core and dualies it is not going to improve framerates much (if any). It will make for nicer gameplay and more realistic physics though if it is done well. The applications that I've seen which are purported to be multi-threaded are not helped at all by dual-cores in my tests.
Why do so many people refuse to pay attention to AMD? After all, they do make the chips. I also believe they understand better than most what the chips are good at and what they are not, and AMD has a much clearer picture of which applications will be multi-threaded and which will not be.
great shop, brought quiet alot of stuff from them....Originally Posted by darrensen
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question...
...while I can see how having multiple GPUs and a range of 4 rendering options can improve your gaming experience...
...I cannot tell so easily how you would multi thread a game to improve the 'world'
Imagine you could do it instantly - with little or no penalty in terms of development time - what would you multi-thread in something like Half Life 2 and what would be the benefit ?
