    I have an Asus A8N-SLi with a 7800GTX and 1GB Corsair XMS PC3200.

The CPU is an Athlon 4000+.

In Battlefield 2, in 1280x1024 with 8x AA and Ultra High detail, I can average 80-90 FPS, some frames drop to around 50-60, sometimes they go around 100-110.

I think that's pretty damn good going.

I'd say killing a rat using a particle rail gun would be more appropriate...

Until Unreal 3 comes out.. there is really no reason to drop that 3000+ of yours...

    Thumbs up

Wow - cheers guys - what a response - plenty to chew on.
I've posted on forums before, but never had this sort of feed back.

I wanted to see what you guys thought, and you've certainly covered all the angles.

So having looked around and found some posts on overclocking my A64, a real belter on the DFI Forum, I now understand why I could only get upto 2000. I'm now overclocked and running sweet at 2400, bar a little stress testing. I don't think that's too bad considering I'm only using a Zalman 7000B in quiet mode for cooling.

So I'll stick with my 6600GT for the mo, and keep my money.

Many thanks again - now I'm just getting carried away.

    Hexus - simply the best.

Nexy's predicament seems to have been sorted, but incase other people find them selves stuck with the same decision, there is a good article at firingsquad.com which shows how game performance with the 7800GTX is affected by cpu speed. (AMD 64 cpus, not XP's or P4's)

GeForce 7800 GTX Performance with Athlon 64
