    Help overclocking my Athlon 64

    Hey guys!

I've got a 939 Winchester Athlon 64 3000+ It is a good stepping i bought it off a mate and he managed to run it at 2.7ghz but with poor memory timings.

In my first set up it consisted of...
    Asus a8n-e Motherboard
    2 x 512 corsair 4400
    tagan 480w psu
    Water cooled.

    I managed to acheive..

but the poor memory timings were because i didn't run 2.75 volts through the ram to speed up the timings to 2.5-4-4-8

    My new setup is...
    Abit AN8 Ultra
    2 x 512 corsair 4400
    New tagan 480w psu
Cpu cooled by Akasa evo 33 [on low]

Its currently running at 2.16ghz 240fsb
I can't seem to manage a stable overclock higher than that? Is this dude to the motherboard as that is the only component which has changed? What would you guys recommend?

To increase the fsb and lower the multiplier? Please let me know.
    James

It was a 120mm rad chipset/cpu/vga 10mm tubing asetek kit, i sold it off because someone offered me a good price and in the next month i will be upgrading and possibly buying a new watercooling kit made up of different manufacturers parts.

We have the same memory, how did you get the timings down? In the bios? And how many volts you running through it?

Go read this come back if you have any questions (you wont its a fantastic thread). If the chip will run 2.7 ghz then just drop the ram divider (will be something like max ram overclock in the bios) that way ram stays at sensible speeds and you can get the cpu up there.

With this ram, set it straight to about 2.8v in the bios then look around further in the bios for timings.

The ram should run with no problems at: 275mhz @ 2.5-4-4-8 @ 2.75v
