    Smile MX1000 advice

hi all, just this morning my new MX1000 from Scan.co.uk came in the post

ive got it all working fine like a dream

but, i just want to ask for some advice on how to look after the battery

it came fully charged up and ready to go, is it best to use it completely up totally then recharge back to full....again and again just for a bit while it is still new? (i do this with my mobiles, house phones etc)

or does the wonder that is the MX1000 not need this charging down, up period...can i just stick it back in the cradle when im done using the pc and let it recharge to max after use? and not worry about the battery life decreasing slowly

    thanks alot

    the pirate

ps, big thank you to scan.co.uk, was the first time i have used you and i have had zero problems with the whole order....will definitly be using you again

ive got a mx700, and i jsut wack it on charge when i go to bed. just charge when u feel u need to m8. Its not going to lose its charge quicker if u dont charge at certain points. If the lgiht starts flashing play with it still by all means, untill it fully runs out if u want. The charge will last a long time, so wacking it on charge every night or 2 will be sufficient

I've had the mouse for a couple of months now, I usualy let it run down until the LED goes red, the leave to charge over night.

I do forget some time so on some days I have a dead mouse, but 1 min of charing gives me enough time to do my stuff.

the first one i had wouldn't hold a charge and the guy at logitech said the best way was to use what charge there is and do one full charge (from red light), I did this with the replacement and now just replace in the charger over night.

I read a review stating that it doesn't damage the battery life noticable to charge it whenever you're not using it. I've got this mouse, when I originally started using it I used to run it flat - but then the range and responsiveness goes in the last hour or two. After a bad CSS experience I've opted to charge it every night.

It's incredibly accurate and responsive during CSS, spot on in Photoshop too.

Just run it till it tells you that the battery is getting low i.e. on the last led red light. The recharge ubtil all 3 lights are green and repeat.

I typically get a weeks use out of mine per charge even with WoW addiction.

I think the MX1000 uses a Lithium-Ion, if that is the case you're actually best off not draining the battery. It actually lessens it's lifespan if you let the battery get too low, so stick it on the charger whenever you feel like it, but as people have said they last ages.

Does it "hurt" the battery if you forget to take it off charge. How long does it normally take to charge? Mine takes hours and hours a good 3-5 for a full charge. It's very annoying when you dont have another mouse spare (which you shouldnt have to have any way).

Appart from that the laser technology used provides a marked improvement in accuracy over optical mice. I probably won't buy another optical mouse again.

AFAIK most NiCd NiMh LiIon batteries are improved by full discharge recharge cycles. This is certainly true of NiCds and NiMh where cycling the battery a couple of times can revitalise an old battery. So for mobile devices without replaceble batteries it would be best to try and run them fairly low then recharge fully rather than charging them randomly.

Dorza: Nearly every modern rechargeable device would have some kind of peak detection charging circuit for the battery. Without this most people would wreck their batteries within a few weeks . LiIon and LiPolymers are meant to be VERY touchy about overcharging and can be quite dangerous if overcharged or shorted out.

There's more info about lithium ion batteries at this link http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.
