I'm on my third PCI-E board.
Anyway, same thing happend with AGP. AGP 2x was out not long after AGP 1x. A bit later 4x (2.0) was out.
Technology progresses. If you are waithing for it to slow down before you adopt/upgrade, you never will.

I wouldn't hold your breath for it.... with products expected in 2007-2008.
Anyone expecting a mobo bought now to still be current in 3 years is living in a fantasy world.
