Got my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty card!!!

It sure is a pretty looking thing, but what all the previews appear to have missed are the following killer features that this package has:

    1. Poster of the Xfi logo.
    2. Poster of Wendell and the Xfi logo.
    3. Cool X-fi case badge.
    4. Neon red Creative/X-fi/Fatal1ty silicone awareness bracelet!!!

Now, I not only have a fantastic sound card, but I also look cool as well!

    Thank you Creative!!

What are the key differences between the Elite Pro and the Fatality series?

Edit: Woa, I could guess the Elite Pro is the flagship looking at the samples CL has been sending out for reviews. But I didn't expect the gap with the most and 2nd most expensive card to be almost the price of... a budget X-Fi.

lol - I need to actually install it. I have a new case, an Akasa Eclipse 62 to replace by Antec Super LANboy, in which to install it but I am waiting for ParcelForce to re-delivery my three 250GB Samsung Spinpoint P120S hard drives for my new RAID 3 array to go into this case.

Getting itchy palms so will probably start migrating kit to the new case tonight and will let you know the differences between AC97 and the X-Fi card with my old headphones (Sennheiser HD497) and my new ones (Icemat Black Siberia).

lol ive got both the sound card and the motherboard and the only tacky thing I can see with themis the name and the face on the box lol.
Apart from that both products are top notch and cannot be faulted.

I have actively avoided Fatal1ty stuff up until now, but I looked at the options that I had at the time when I thought about getting an X-Fi instead of using AC97 audio after reading the preview in Custom PC. At that point, only the Pro, Fatal1ty FPS and the basic one (cannot remember what it's called!) were available.

Why did I choose the X-Fi FPS edition card?
    1. I only use headphones and the X-Fi are suppossed to be fantastic through headphones.
    2. I am upgrading my case to the Akasa Eclipse 62 at the same time and so I needed to get front audio ports. The FPS card as them on the IO panel.
    3. As a gamer, it made sense to go for the cheapest card that had the 64MB of X-Ram as this is the thing that boosts performances in games. The FPS card is the cheapest one to have this.

IMHO you shouldn't diss a whole range of products just because of the person promoting them. My wife cannot stand that Barker woman, but that wouldn't stop us getting a sofa from DFS if it was what we wanted.

This is exactly what I am hoping for on my system.

Also tempted to go from 1GB of Corsair Twin-XMS Pro to 2GB after reading an interview with Gabe Newell stating that the max performance in HL2/CS:S with HDR fully enabled can be achieved with:
    - An AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU (check)
    - An nVidia GeForce 6800 GT graphics card (check)
    - 2GB of memory (doh!)

Glad you all love the posters of Wendell, but are any of you going to wear the awareness bracelet? Think I might put the case badge behind the window on the inside of the case.

Oh the aesthetic decisions one has to make......

That was the ONLY really stupid thing that I did when I built a new PC last December. I got an Asus A8V Deluxe mobo which is AGP/PCI with an AGP 6800GT. When I decide that I need a lovely 7800GTX, then I will have to upgrade my mobo as well as the card, and possibly replace my 9 month old Tagan 480W PSU as well.

    Grrrrr!
