Is that supposed to represent the average rig of someone on these forums? Or is that just what you are limited to due to financial constraints?

Anyway, with my 512MB at the moment I'll pop in another stick at Christmas. Then hope DDR2 comes to a 939 motherboard and then get 2x1GB for that

new cpus will be needed for that to happen as the memory controler is on the cpu not the mobo

Screw my doctorate title, even a 10 year old can do this math..
A lot of windows' background resources can be cleared out by selectively ridding prefetch files in the prefetch folder. Windows will page redundant/sleeping processes straight to disk so unless they're active, they shouldnt cause too much of an issue.

Dont mean to sound rude but im pretty sure dual SLI isnt a 'typical' setup.

I think Nick was pointing to 2x512 memory, and still had smooth play.

Well.. heres a straight up pre-HEXUS review performance evaluation

My system is a little more 'typical' compared to HEXUS's rig

    3000+ Venice @ 2.6Ghz (9x289)
    2x512MB Corsair XMS C2PT @ 333MHz Divider 3-4-3-10
    250GB Maxtor DM10 Sabre
    6800GT @ Ultra

    While playing at 1024x768 at 4xAA 4xAF
    using FRAPS,

I get an average fps around 40s with dips into the single digits during map loading and seriously heavy firefights.. Highs are around 100+ when everything's nice and quite.. but thats not the point..

Popping it up to 1280x960 with 4XAA.. hmn.. maybe I shoudnt even post those frame rates.. its low... thats all u guys need to know..

So better textures, better levels, better shaders, are all to be expected for free?

You cant expect something for nothing..

Well I for one won't be buying this. Whats the point. Jerky naff frame rates at 1024x768 with a bit 'o AA on a decent machine that will play anything else on the market fine. ffs.

What does the minimum spec on the box say?

Had to put everything to low in order to play at 1600x1200
It doesn't lag too much though. The lag you said only lasted about 1.5sec.

Another odd thing is I can't seems to enable hardware mixing and EAX in the game (I got an A2ZS so I can't think of why I couldn't)

I personally think that the low setting is too low and the med setting is too high. I should just upgrade my card

When u have 4Gs of ram.. of cs it runs fine..

I dun have any major lag issues after the game has loaded at medium + 4xaa.. but its those annoying hiccups when they load up a new maps that kills the fun..

running 4x512 microns solved bits of the loading problem.. 1.5secs is not too bad...

those with a gig of ram should be prepared.. feel the hiccups...!!
