    just checking

    I have 2 ide drives at the mo, if I plugged in an SATA one all would still be fine, yes?

    and whats a 3G drive?!

    Should be fine mate as long as you enable S-ATA in the BIOS

    works fine - in theory (depending on your mobos connections and size of case) you could have 4 SATA hard drives and 2 IDE's...

    and not a clue what a 3G drive is.

    think you mean 3Gb/s drive - SATA interface speed instead of 1.5Gb/s.
    of course the drive mechanics can't provide that but when did that ever matter in marketing ...

    riiiight....um so its best just to save confusion and get an SATA and forget anything about 3g-whatsit...is it mobo dependant? mine said nothing like 3gb/s transfer or anything so getting one wouldn't really help.

    Yeah, get a 1.5Gb/s hard drive if your motherboard doesn't mention it.

    And well I never, so SATA II hard drives don't REALLY exist!

    The correct name to what we all refere to as sata ii is SATA 3Gb/s.

    These sata2 (which is how i like to say it) drives should work with sata1 only motherboards.

    Works fine for me, I have a SATA hdd for windows/installs, then an IDE one for files.

    If I get a Nforce4 Ultra mobo, which supports SATA II and an SATA II drive, will it run at 3Gb or not ?
