If you wanted to save a few quid on the cpu (oem) try with free shipping?

Also if there is not going to be any overclocking is there any need to get that mobo (1 of overclockers choice) eg. this would seem to cover all the bases and save around £40

I agree that a slightly higher rating PSU may be needed, especially if he ever does go to SLI, Tagan is a good choice in my opinion though.

All the best and have fun with the build.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I have already built with the A8N Premium and even though it wont be used for overclocking its a well built motherboard. Always built with Asus. Also even though Lian Li is nice, I now like the looks of the Antec P180 for him. I narrowed down the choice of cases between the Chenbro Gaming Bomb II, Antec P180 and Gigabyte 3d Aurora.

I think 430W will handle SLI, well I hope so anyway. Btw is that NEC 4550 DVD RW drive any good? I seen them lightscribe ones are they a gimmick?

The 7800GT for 200 quid is pretty good value I think.

personally i think lightscribe is a gimic to make disks cost more but i surpose it could be counted as cool

I have heard good things about the NEC drives, and I too think lightscribe is a gimic. I read somewhere (customPC I think?) it can take ages for the image to be burned onto the disk.

All the cases you mentioned are really good from what i have read, it all comes down to preferance. Why not show your mate some pics of each and ask him to choose!!

    All the best,

The time required is proportional to how complex your picture is. Its just like it take a few seconds to print a page of text from your printer and a minute for a picture.

My 4167 is far more quiet than the NEC ND1000A (2.4x +R, ancient stuff). Well actually DVDRW doesn't make much different nowadays.

a friend has just asked me the same thing, but I have around £1k to play with - managed to get a 2005fpw in there, and desperately trying to keep it, but have hit £1137, slightly over his budget, so will tell him to wait a month, or do some overtime

go for scans latest batch of 144s they are a good stepping and are on today only till weds at 90 quid, also there is a refurb shop in the bargain forum with the dell monitors they are 250 in there so mayb it worth checking it out,
and in reply to the original thread,
430 will no handle sli end of,
why risk it just get a bigger psu the hiper 580 is cheapish at 60 ish and is a good psu and easily has the power but its recomended for one gt that you have a 400 watt psu and for two 500 watt is recomended that gaming bomb looks cheap and is no match for either of the other two cases i think my money would go with the p 180 but the auora is an amzing case none the less two of the best on the market atm imo, forget the gaming bomb lol.

o yer and where you said i hope it will handle sli
erm i would be safe not sorry its only 20 quid we are tlking bout for a better psu try the 480 watt tagan that you have got that should be better as its more powerfull than most that are rated the same or so i have heard cusomtpc rate it very highly.

The 480W Tagan is good. I'd recommend it. CPC did a PSU test, and basically every PSU failed some of the tests (sorry, I can't be assed to go look out the article) and 3 (IIRC) even blew up. A good high quality PSU is essential for todays systems, and Rys, I know you've said you've had your best rig on a 430W PSU, but what were you doing with it, was it being stressed for days on end etc? Personally, I wouldn't bother, I'd just pay out the extra money and get the better quality.
