    ^^ 6800gt does not beat a x800xt - it's got a very, very similar performance to a x800xl in the real world.

Just because you have one does not make it faster!

    6800 ultra ~ x800xt pe.

an x850xt can be picked up for @ £145 from ocuk and will oc to 575/600.

    an x850xt pe will spank a 6800gt.

5Gb for a windows partition is really too little, unless you are very strict about deleting saved files after updating and using the minimal amout of space for system restore.

Have a good clean out, defrag, run all the anti-spyware stuff, repartition windows drive with a bit more space, put the paging file on the other physical drive.

I did the research before I bought the 6800 GT and there is the evidence to back up my claim that its faster than an x800 XL. I was going to buy an x800 GTO but for the same money (I'm stuck with AGP) a second hand 6800 GT has much better performance, it was on the strength of the benchmarks below (and a few others) that I swapped from ATI to Nvidia. I was perfectly happy with my 9800 Pro and would have had another ATI card if it had had the speed to justify its cost, an x850 Pro was more expensive and not as fast as the 6800 GT. x800 XLs and x800 XTs are much more expensive than the x850 Pro and not a whole lot faster.

I said "generally" because not all benchmarks are good benchmarks, there are clearly benchmarks where the performance of the graphics card isn't what limits FPS. Benchmarking isn't an exact science and a lot of benchmarks are clearly flawed. They have to be done with the fastest processor possible so it doesnt hold back the graphics card.

Do you consider Toms Hardware a reliable source of reviews? (The VGA charts from the summer aren't ideal because they don't use the newest games, e.g. Call of Duty 2, FEAR, Quake 4.)

Have a look at the high res scores with AA and AF enabled. Its pointless looking at lower res scores without the AA and AF because the graphics card isn't the bottleneck on those benchmarks

The Half Life benchmarks are CPU bound, thats how the 9800 XT beats the x800 XT at 1024 * 768 without AA and AF enabled. Its also how the 9800 Pro beats the 6800 GT and Ultra on the same test.

Digit Life has some graphs that include plenty of GPUs.

Have a look at the graphs again hi res, 1600 * 1200 with AF + AA. (There are 2 6800 GTs shown, mine is the one with the faster clocks (350/1000) and faster benchmark scores).

Call of Duty 2 and FEAR are the most relavent here since they're the newest and most graphically demanding games (Half Life 2 and Far Cry don't really push a card as hard as the newer games can) i.e. the limiting factor is the graphics card and not the CPU.

Show me good benchmarks that show the ATI cards are faster.
