I'm no audio expert, but I thought that MP3s were not really great quality anyway, so if someone is only interested in playing songs, then a super sound card won't really help, will it?

Well the X-Fi can up-mix to 24-bit quality in real time, so even MP3s sound awesome.

You also have to take into account those of us who have our music also save in lossless formats or pure wav.

Urgh. Let's not spread this type of misinformation. latrosicarius is right, you can't make a lossy format sound like the original. The "Crystalizer" (and any such "technology") is usually considered a marketing joke by most audio enthusiasts. It might change the sound, yes, but it is more comparable to EQing than a genuine sound improvement.

That said, it is true that unless you have excellent quality headphones/speakers as well as good quality audio files (lossless or at least high quality encodes), you probably won't benefit from a mid-high end sound card.

Got it. Ive installed the card, and screwed the box into the bay. I might have a problem with the HDD type cable, as ive got no spare one's on my mobo, and i use them both, got my DvD-RW and DvD-Rom on one, and a IDE HD on the other. I hope the cables will reach. Why the hell does it use that and the other floppy type power cable? Stupid!

I installed the disk, and did eveything it says, but im not getting any sound at all. I went into Control Panel and Audio devices and it says No Audio Device. When i click on the Audio Console Creative icon there, it says not detected?

WTF! I uninstalled my old Audigy drivers, re-booted and ran driver cleaner.

    Hmmmmm.

My cable isn't long enough, and im not sure it will even work, as the one creatie give you for it, is different, less wholes in it.

So wtf, ive got to loose a DvD-drive because creative suck?

Also it didnt seem to install correctly. I cancelled the windows popup for install, and used the CD, rebooted, etc etc. No everything in programs seems fine, and in add/remove, it's all there propely. But when i went to do something it sid no audio device found? ive just gone into device manager and audio controller had an exclamation mark. I updated driver, using auto, and now it seems fine. Is this ok?

Whats with the 'losing a DVD drive'?

That 40-pin cable that just happens to look like an IDE cable goes from your soundcard to the front connection bay. Nothing at all to do with IDE....do not connect it to IDE drives or your IDE controller.

Sounds like you either need to connect it up correctly (although I would expect the soundcard to be detected, even without the bay connected) or send it back as you have blown it by connecting it to your motherboards IDE controller

I assume having to abandon the use of one since he used the IDE cable for that drive? I hope he didn't plug the sound card to the IDE connector though

Anyway, thats the reason I didn't go Platinum/Fatal1ty. Too much trouble just to set up a front drive

LOL, me stupid. I didn't connect it up so iam ok. The card is working fine, dunno why the drivers didn't install properly 1st time......

The instructions are basically nothing, and there is no manual. Hell the box is hardly in English, which seems wierd.

Anyways, ill hook it up properly, cheers guys lol. I just assumed it was an IDE cable as it looks exactly like one.

    Guys,
Please can someone confirm the difference between the Fatal1ty card and the platinum is just the 64MB XRAM?

    Cheers...
