Who is upgrading their 939 to AM2?

    Hi all,

The prices seem very good for the AM2 mobo's and CPU's.

In fact the price seems too good......which leads me to believe that there wont be that much of a performance difference between the 939 and the AM2?

Who's going to upgrade to the AM2........(poll)

Not me, happy with my opteron at the moment. Only likely switch would be to conroe if it is as good as early reports suggest.

agreed my 146 is doing me nicely at the moment - i'll only contemplate going to M2 once its totally established and the prices arn't through the roof - the opteron is gonna take alot of beating for me to upgrade atm

Yes i agree.....if the Conroe is as good as initial reports then i'm afraid i'll be switching to the dark side. ( Been AMD fan for long time )

I was hoping some of the people would switch to AM2 and sell their 939 kit cheap but what you guys are saying it isn't going to happen

Is there a head to head review between the 939 and AM2?

Would be interesting to see the results.

I'm seriously thinking about going to 2gig of RAM. I'm in a bit of a dilemma...as I need a budget PC for my father anyway. I'm thinking...do I buy 2 gig of decent DDR2 RAM now...then bung in a Pentium D 805 and 945 chipset MB now? or do I stick with good old fashioned DDR, get 2 gig of that, and do a complete upgrade 6 months from now?
    What are people's thoughts?

    Anandtech -

Well i wasnt going to get AM2 coz the above article show theres not really that much improvement, but then i saw the prices on scan and the AM2 4400 is only £30 more than the X2, so im thinking i might as well (yeh i know ill have to get DDR2)

Why is "I'm going to wait for final Conroe vs. AM2 comparisons to be performed before making a choice" not an option?
