Antec new PSU - 550 GB?

I'm a fan of Antec PSU's and cases, but the latest range of PSU's naming is just rubbish. It's an obvious attempt to confuse people between PSU power supply ratings and hard drive sizes.

I am constantly trying to get my friends to build their own PC's, and this sort of rubbish is what stops people from doing it. Confusion.

No, it means that it's a model for Great Britain.
The models for Europe are EC.

I've decided to no longer buy Antec PSU's until they get they're RMA sorted out.

You have to ship from the UK to Rotterdam - shipping would have been half the cost of the NeoHE 430 (I was thinking of purchasing) at around £25. I was thinking of using the NeoHE with an Asus motherboard and there can be problems with earlier revisions of both.

I thought it was a legal requirement for the retailer or manufacturer to refund all delivery costs for an RMA?

Has always worked for me, I send along a nice little email to Ebuyer saying "it's cost me x pounds to ship this to you, please could you refund me?" and a couple of days later I get the refund for the dead product and the shipping costs.

I contacted Antec before placing an order and they told me I have would have to ship to them. They were reluctant to answer the question to be honest.

They told me to buy a Truepower 2.0 or Smartpower 2.0 when I said I had an older Asus mobo (A7V333).

The problem with returning the psu to the retailer such as ebuyer would have been that the replacement would have most likely had the same problem. No way of checking current revision - only Antec could have guaranteed this.

Even if it does stand for Great Britain (who uses that btw, instead of UK...???), why put it straight after the wattage instaid of a W?? Do you really think Antec didn't think putting GB after a number wouldn't make it look like 550gb...

Yes, I know most people on here would know wtf a PSU should look like, etc, but Antec are one of the few mfr's in full on retail (I've seen them in central london retail in Maplins and in the US in a Circuit City, in both situations with no competition in the PSU section, or fan/cooler section too) where you'd likely get people who don't know the difference between a GB and a W.

Even if it's a mistake, get it sorted out.

As has been mentioned the GB is the country code element of the manufacturer product code.

Looking at the actual boxed product then the only point "550GB" crops up is as part of the tiny barcode label on the back of the box at the bottom so I would personally say Antec are not trying to be misleading with the retail packaging. Indeed the box front is remarkably clear over the PSU's capabilities having 550 in big print with "watt" written underneath and a list of type compatibilities (ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V).
