    Finally a new PC :)

Finally got the money together to build a new PC, i have £900 to spend on the system. I dont need DVD drives, but everything else has to be new. I was thinking,

    AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ (edit)
    Asus A8N-SLI SE (Edit )
    BFG 7900GT 256mb
    2Gb Geil PC4000 DDR
2 x 250gb Hard disk's (unsure what make to get)
    500w Antec Power supply

Any suggestions or reccomendations to this setup would be much appreciated,

    Cheers

    Craig

As good as it can be, though i think 2x 250Gb might be cheaper and I dont really trust ECS, but that just me.

Scan is doing maxtor 250gig at £50 a piece. The cheapest 400gig drive £110. So save the ten quid, buy two of them and get 100gig extra

You could also go for a nice 500gig RAID 0, which will be fast as hell.

You might wanna look into a modular PSU, much better ariflow if you're OC'ing (i'm guessing you are from the PC4000 RAM)

I'd look for a decent cooler for the 3800+ too, again assuming that you're overclocking.

Yep i'm going to be overclocking it, havent a clue what the best HSF is tho, havent really kept up with the nitty gritty stuff. Reason i went with the ECS motherboard is because its literally £50 less than any other SLi motherboard i can find, if u can find me an SLi motherboard from a more reputable manufacturer for £60 then i'll go for that.

What Antec PSU were you thinking about getting?
The NeoHE's are modular, and generate very little heat and noise, but there are plenty of other reputable PSU manufacturer's out there.

As for the hard drives, I wouldn't recommend chuckskull's idea of getting a 500gig RAID0 array.
If you lost one drive, you effectively lose your whole terabyte of information....not a wise thing to do...
EDIT: On a re-read, I dont think that's what chuckskull was advising, so apologies to him for that .

2 or 3x250gig drives might be better..then you could use RAID0 or even RAID 5 if you're feeling adventurous, or simply leave them as separate entities.

The rest of the setup seems fairly solid, but bear in mind that AMD are due to drop the price of their 939 and AM2 parts once Conroe launches, which should lower that X2 3800+'s price considerably.

Yeah, what he said ^^ I would wait a bit, as the x2 3800+ will come down in price mid July, I am waiting as well.

SLI board for around £65? Abit KN8 SLI... Its basically an AN8 SLi minus the uGURU + Silent OTES..

The rest of the specs looks pretty decent..

and ditto with the 2x250GB.. makes more sense tbh.. and the KN8 has plenty of ports to take up another 2xSATA and 2xIDEs..
    Me want Ultrabook

hey dude, its late and i cant really be bothered answering ur question (no offense) but please remember, this topic is about spazmans pc build.

Theres various reasons why you should create ur own thread...
it will generate more interest in the thread, as it appears on the new threads list.
It makes things easier to see, and helps spazman interpret what people are trying to say.
to name but a few... i know its ur first post and all, but rtfm
