the only difference for you between cable and DSL is the modem, most people with DSL will have the modem built into the router (thats what DSL routers are) whereas yours will just be a router and a switch (the router is the part that handles the net connection, the switch is the part that enable multiple computers to connect)
so theres no reason why you couldnt get a "cable router" with a cable modem in it (they dont really exist as no one needs to pay the extra btw), and theres no reason why you couldnt connect in a DSL modem into the router youre buying and use the setup on a DSL line
