    Then why not go for the 3.8ghz pentium 4?

    Hehe. With the averate die generating enough heat per square inch similar to that of the sun, they've decided to think more about 'performance per clock'. i.e. the raw clock speed alone isn't directly prop. to how much you can achieve. Therefore, a conroe 1.8Ghz is, as seen here, faster than most offering by AMD.

    I used the word 'faster', but you now know what we mean...

    Remeber you'll have to overclock the E6300 to beat the AM2 4600+ as far as i know.

    Hey man, tell me about it;

    current rig;

    amd athlon xp 3000 +
    2 x IDE WD 120 gig 5200 rpm 8 mb cache
    Ati Radeon 9500
    2x 512 mb Kingston DDR 400 / pc3200
    Asus A7N8X Deluxe

    And with that^^ I play competetive css in one of the top 15 ranked css clans in the uk. I REALLY need a better rig.

    New Rig;

    Conroe E6600
    74 gb WD raptor / 16mb cache
    not sure on gpu but likely to be a geforce 7900 GT Extreme
    G.Skill 2x 1gb DDR2 800mhz
    Asus P5W DH
    X-Fi Extreme Music

    Ordered half of it last night, and I am wetting my self with anticipation of finally getting it all together.

    My current system, not gaming haha

    p4 2.6 @ 2.8
    abit IC7 mobo
    seagate 80gig PATA
    nvidia 550fx POS
    256meg of Corsair XMS Plat.

    I got 2x 17" tfts on this, and annoyingly the screen blanks randomly and wakes up a second later....very annoying!

    Only my Macs are fast and I do everything on them, but for my engineering stuff I need windows...so Conroe it is.

    Conroe will do anything you need on an engineering front. CAD shouldn't be a problem even for that system. Unless you're animating 3d models I don't think you need to go as far as a conroe. But if you want to on the other hand....

    That's the conroe i'd like, decent stock speed and room for the overclock, good choice.
