I think I'll leave the Akasa Zen and just keep my current case, I can buy a better one later on at some point. Anyway thanks for the help guys, much appreciated .

Feel free to make any more suggestions though, I won't be ordering until next week at the earliest. .

    Thanks.

It's a Lian Li PC0700, it's(or was) a good case but the front panel is pretty flimsy imo, the power switch has to be held in place with blue tack and the the connectors connected to the power switch, power lights and reset button comes out a bit. The case takes four fans so there's a good amount of cooling, bit noisy though(I'm using the stock fans though). It doesn't have the tooless design of more modern cases, though it doesn't bother me too much. Tbh I'm probably better just keeping it just now and getting a better case later on.

    I can't take a picture since I still havn't bothered buying a digi cam.

all you have to do is tight the screws on the front panel and super glue the switches and lights. clean the case add led fans and you are good to go.

I think the fans are 120mm, all four(2 HDD/front, one rear and one top) of them by the look of it. I tried measuring the front and rear fans and they definetly seem to be 120mm, not sure about the fan on top of the case though, looks about the same size but I'm not too sure. How many fans will I need anyway?

Are those 120mm ones the cheapest I'd get? Just they'll all add up to over £20 which seems quite a bit for fans, though if they're good, I might as well.
Also is that GFX card I selected meant to be noisey or anything?
Another thing is that I need a 1394a firewire port but the mobo I selected doesn't seem to have one, does it come with any add on card like the Asus A7N8X Deluxe or will I have to buy a seperate one as well?

    Thanks.

Definetly get the sharkoon fans, very quiet. the zalman are quite loud at full speed.

Also consider Akasa amber fans and silenX

yeah you can expect to pay that much at least for quiet fans. You could try those ebuyer cheapo ones and you might get a bargain though.
You are right, the reference coolers on those ati cards are pretty damn noisy, so if you are after a quiet system, you could replace it with a zalman or arctic cooling hsf, which would cost around £20-£30. Maybe worth reconsidering that galaxy 7900gt that comes with the zalman hsf as standard.
pci firewire cards cost naff all so just get one of those as long as you have spare pci slots

How many fans do you think I'll need?

What difference in performance is there between X1900XT 512MB and 7900GT 256MB?

Not sure on how many you need, but I can heartily recommend the adjustable Silverstone fans - white fans with a controller. They allowed me to set a good balance between noise & performance and are available in 80, 92 and 120mm varieties

If you dont want a fan controller and just want low noise, the sharkoon range seems good, zalman excellent but expensive, and then silverstone ones, which are half the price and quiet (these are the plain black ones, low noise) while having good airflow - just used them in another build

one intake, one outtake would provide sufficient airflow. You'd only really need more than that if you were majorly overclocking your system, so don't worry too much about it. The x1900xt is probably worth the extra money but if you include the price of a decent cooler it works out far more expensive

by the way, i reckon if there's 2 front intakes its unlikely to be 120mm, probably 80mm

I'd be a bit nervous replcing the cooler on a GFX card tbh, don't want to spend that much on a card only to go and break it . I guess I'll stick with the 7900GT, trouble is Scan don't seem to have it in stock, neither is the mobo and Arctic Cooler HSF. I emailed them lastnight, so hopefully I'll get a reply soon .

Like chazt said, two fans is plenty, the outtake being the more important of the two. Personally I find intake fans are much more important for hard disk cooling than anything else.

You'll get a reply from scan monday morning usually.

i wouldn't be scared off, its a piece of piss. You do invalidate the warranty unfortunately though, so best to get one with a decent hsf installed. There's a HIS x1900xt on overclockers' this week only section at the mo, and they come with quiet coolers installed, for £223. Ocuk have a pretty bad rep but i have no bad experiences with them
