    DS3 Northbridge is Toasty

Any one have the DS3? My northbridge heatsink is burning hot, ie 60+, meaning the chipset is probably about 70-80.

I've just installed my H2O kit on it, but not including a northbridge block, so now it gets no air either. Will this be my biggest stability issue now? I might have to get a block for it...

Anyone else with the DS3 have a really hot northbridge heatsink? What's normal for the northbridge on the 965?

one of those blue zalman heatsinks with a gentle breeze from a 120mm will do the trick for you, i tried a block on mine, but i changed it for a hr-05 in the end. if you havent got a spare heatsink and dont want buy one, just give the stock one a damn good clean and reseat it with some arctic silver 5 or ceramique and get some airflow over it

Cheers Clunk, but it's as new, no dust etc... and the heatsink is working fine - it's bloody hot!

    Holy crap, looks good.

Annoying thing is I have a 1/2" chipset block, but I'm running a 10mm system. Need a 1/2" pump and 120.2 rad to make it complete.

theres not that much difference in temps with a block or the hr-05 to be honest mate, just be really really careful that the block sits right on the chipset because its easy for it to tilt to one side slightly and there goes all your cooling!...and motherboard the other bad thing about using a chipset block is if you need to get to the area round it once its fitted, its a right pain. i may try it again when i have a bigger case

Yeah, I noticed they used a foam shim on the chipset with the stock cooler. Good idea. I wonder if I can make something similar for my waterblock from foam tape...

ill tell you what might work. an 80mm fan hanging off the waterblock rods, you could always get a 7v resistor wire and it would be pretty much silent then.

What about a Zalman fan bracket? Wouldn't that do the trick?
