    Amd Fx-64

    Hello,

Does anybody know when the AMD FX-64 CPU is coming out? They (AMD) had said that it would be released with the rest of the AM2 CPU's, but I can't find it anywhere?

    Thanks in advance!

Its due out in the last quarter of this year.

On reading its spec on AMD's website the Core2Duo should still be better processors though.

Well yeah, it will only be a 200Mhz increase i assume?

Regardless of what the actual improvement on the chip is - it won't be able to compete with the top end Intel Core2Duo processors

If the improvement was the ability to issue twice as many SSE instructions per clock than it currently manages?

I suspect that when that happens (K8L core, probably next year) then both CPUs will be about the same speed so Intel and AMD will end up in a price war

there will be .65nm chips first in the next couple of months, then another lot of .65nm chips with the "k8l" revisions next year, so they might be bringing out the fx64 then (the first batch)
