    Unhappy PSU consumption calculation

I have checked my power need on page

    http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

with the following content in my computer to be:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    RAM: 2 sticks DDR SDRAM
    Graphics card 1: e-GeForce 7600 GT KO
    Graphics card 2: e-GeForce 7600 GS
    Hard drive: SATA
    Other drive: DVD-RW/DVD+RW
PCI card: Sound Blaster + 1 more (in case I need one)
    USB: 1 (a camera)
    Fan controller: Yes
Fans: Three 120 mm (absolue maximum)
Motherboard, keyboard and mouse are automatically included in the power calculation.

I had to calculate three times since I have two graphics cards: once without any card, once with one of the cards, and once with the other card. That way, I could figure out the power consumption of the two cards and add those two values to the value without cards. The total was 285 watts.

    On page http://psu.thetruck.net/

it is said that almost most of the power outtake is from the 12 V rails, which means that I need some 23-24 A from those rails.

I am posting here to see if I have done this right (it is my first build; my only previous project was a Heathkit ham transceiver in 1962 :-). And I also wanted to see if I should jack up to a 450 W PSU or stay with something smaller.

I get it to 321w on that calculator thing.

Have you already bought the cards? I was just wondering why you went for 2 different 7600 cards?

Yes, I already bought the cards. I figured that the GS would really have been enough for my needs, but I wanted to have a little extra punch, so I bought the GT for two monitors and the slower GS for the third monitor, which I will not use so very much. I will do graphics work etc. with the GT.

I will use the monitors as follows (I am a translator):

1 – target file, that is, the file that will become the translation

2 – source file, that is, the file that I am translating from

3 – reference material, either a file or a web document, that I need to consult when I translate.

I will use Ultramon to coordinate the monitors. I have this app now with my two montors.

So, you got 321 W. I guess a 400 or 450 watt would give me more than enough safety, then.

I see, in that case you should be fine with 400-450w.

And, even though it is another topic, I have decided to go with the PC-A10 case. It is smaller than G70, and it does not have a side opening on the left side (looking toward the front), which, in my situation, will be close to a wall.
