What harddrives for RAID 0?

Hey guys,

I've already got a 200gb and an 80gb drive, these are gonna be 'storage' drives.. i basically want 2 lowish capacity (sub 100gb i'd guess) non-raptors which will work well in an RAID0 configuration... there are plenty of 40/80/120gb drives out there, what should i buy?

only real conditions are SATA (150, but 300 will do i guess) and 8mb cache (unless 16 is much better?)

I'm rather resistant to suggest RAID0 for storage, unless your taking regular backups/can lose the data & not be too worried.

If so - 2 of these would be your best bet, though unless you are doing video work you may aswell get a single larger drive.

oh sorry, i phrased it all completely wrong.

the 200+80 will be storage. the 2x[insert hdd here] will be used for the OS (with perhaps linux on the 80 as a kinda failsafe should the raid fail)...

The seagates are one of the best performing 7200rpm drives available, so you should be happy

Yes you are indeed correct, however both are showing up as 7200.9s on the Scan site

Avoid Maxtor at all cost, mine's keep clicking for last 10 months or so.

do they do any 7200.10 @ small capacities? i can only find .9 revision of 80gb drives everywhere...

otherwise is there an option similar to the 7200.10 in terms of performance?

i've just realised that even if i pre-order these drives i wont be able to use them as my PSU is modular and all the power cables are sitting at home, and im at uni...

think i will revive this thread at christmas time and see whats changed
