    7900gs or 7950gt?

Right since my x1950 pro fell through and i'm fed up waiting for a new graphics card (currently using a 6600gt) i've got a choice between a 7900gs at 130 or a 7950gt at 190?

Now which one would be best with a AMD64 3200+, would the 7950gt be bottled necked by the CPU? Would I be crazy to spend the extra 60 quid or will it tie me over well until 2nd generation mid range dx 10 cards come out?

i would say it depends on how much of a hardcore gamer you are

if i was in your position i would buy a 7900GS and hold onto it till about june and then see what was going on in the DX10 market

however if you game a lot then it would be the 7950GT and then again wait till about june and see whats going on in the DX10 market

i cant see the 7950GT underpreforming due to your CPU

so it really depends on your budget and needs

Agreed, its a difficult one in these early days of dx10. I just got a 79GTO so I would recommend that, except they seem to have got rather expensive now.

Are you gonna be gaming high res? I'd probably say get the GT, just to be awkward

yeah to be honest i'm just seeking to allay the guilt of rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishing 190 on a gfx card. I'll probably hold onto it till october/november (i try to give the gaming a break over the summer months) so the 7950gt is probably the best one.

If it wasn't for that damn Total War 2 i'd be be happy making do with my 6600gt a little longer!

well i've just picked up the 7950gt and i'm shocked at how big it is. I've only been used to the 9600 Pro and 6600GT before.

Anyway sat in work bored out of my wits counting the seconds till 5 oclock.

Though i'm going to have to install my new PCI mobo first, and make a new install of XP.

Dumb question.... cant see a fan on that one... and it mentions about being really quiet... could it be passive?

    Thanks.

The 7950 is the same PCB as a 7900GTX, so it's pretty long. the passive XFX one has a chunky heatsink on the back.

You should've got an x1950pro. They seem to be the best value card atm.
    With love and many thanks,

well yes but since they're are none in stock and i've been waiting on one for two weeks with empty promises I thought **** it, the 7950gt might be dearer but it's faster and available locally, and since postage to N.Ireland is extortionate it wasn't that big a price difference.
