What is wrong with my stupid pc???

I'm getting very frustrated with it! I have a folder on the desktop where I put all my photos as a first step from my digicam. All the files are jpegs or avis. I've had them on my old pc for years, and when I got my new pc in October I put the folder onto the desktop of this new pc. It created a problem whereby every time I opened the folder, Windows explorer crashed and the folder closed. I fixed this by dragging each file in the folder individually to a new folder until I found which file was causing this. So since October, it's been fine.

Just now I decided to put all the videos in the folder into a sub folder. Dragged some of the videos into that folder and then i get the crash again! It's really weird, if I go into main folder it's fine until I drag down to a certain point (I guess where a corrupt file is placed) and as soon as I can see it, it crashes! It only happens when the files are viewed as thumbnails, any other view and it's fine!

It really is starting to annoy me, I have noooo idea why it's doing this! Is it corrupt file? Faulty hdd? what?????

Thanks for any advice or help,
    Chris.

*edit* Ok i've realised it happens with any folder that has avi videos from my camera in, but that has come from "cam" folder on the desktop. If I drag the videos into a different folder, that video will cause the crash. But then videos that are in "My Videos" in My Docs which were taken with my camera, are fine!!! I really don't get this. Seems all the avis from that "cam" folder turn corrupt! Is there any way to check/fix this?

Sounds like one of the files is corrupted - have had this happen to me a few times and is a pain trying to work out what file is causing it and managing to delete it before getting the error message.

Try reinstalling the video codecs that you've got installed on the system, that might solve it, but it's more likely to be a corrupt file as said before.

I've had this a number of times, nothing you can do about it...identify the file at fault, delete and re-rip/re-download

I can't see that it's a single file, since it crashes whenever I open a folder with JUST avi videos taken with my camera, no other avis. And I can't get them back since they are holiday videos and stuff that I have no backup of :/

I'll try the codec thing to see if that makes a difference. Cheers.

Are there any 'hidden' files in the "cam" folder that gets created?
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

Like Clunk , run scandisk also try defrag which can speed things up.
is your rig oced & have you checked stabilty (prime etc.,), often memorystability issues can cause similar symtoms.

    luck

Well I did as Richie said...uninstalled ffdshow and it's all fine now! What I don't get is how I had ffdshow on my old pc when they all worked fine, strange.

I guess i'll try and reinstall it and see if the same thing re-occurs. Cheers everyone!
