    Slow startup

Not too bad really, but when I press the on button on my comp, it takes about 5 seconds before anything happens. Happened since I built the pc in September and always meant to ask on here but always forget. Any ideas why it does that?

PSU is a Seasonic S12 500W in case it's not in my specs

    Cheers.

Mine does something similar - comes on for about 1 second, turns off for 3 and then boots up. Must be either PSU or mobo but not sure why. Also, my PSU seems to buzz for a few seconds after the PC is turned off. I'm assuming this is a component protection feature?

Do you have an early BIOS?

May have nothing to do with it but I built a PC for one of my daughters last week using a different ASUS motherboard, all new stuff purchased the week before from SCAN, so a reliable source – not old stock.

Initially built with a single SATA hard drive and installed drivers and OS and Apps and everything fine. I then plugged in 2nd SATA hard drive, and during POST the system would pause for 40-50 seconds between discovering 1st hard drive and 2nd.

The BIOS on the board was 0504, the BIOS on the install CD was 0904 and the latest BIOS on the web site was 1304. Tried different SATA cables, and it speeded up first start, but after that the pause was back again! I upgraded the BIOS from 0504 to 0905 and the problem vanished – now zips through power-on and boot up! I shall be upgrading to 1304 now.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

There was an issue with seasonic power supplies if I remember right. It might be worth giving them a call.

    Cheers everyone.

fishboy, yeah thats exactly what mine does, but no buzz on shutdown.

I'll try the BIOS update (not sure what I have now) and if that does nothing forget it, can't be bothered faffing about RMAing it since I have no spare and i'm in my final year of uni, can't go without my pc for all that time, i'll live with it
