Will those crucials hit PC8500 speeds easily? As Im trying to figure what RAM to get as well. Im aiming for 400 FSB which they should do easily but would be nice to know they can handle 500 FSB (overclock) down the line for sure (or would that depend on which mobo their in.. thinking along the lines of AB9-Pro or P5B-E Plus).

Using matrix raid u have a lot of permutations available & should be able to do as u wish see Intel® Matrix Storage Technology buff will probably know better than me but i have read of conflict issues between raid & ide dvd/cd with the quad gt, didn't take to much notice so am unsure on fix.

have 2 x80gb hitachi in raid0 atm, once i've paid off my debt fot this build i want to get 2 more to play raid a bit more. but i will use tyhe last 2 sata ports as single drives 20 & 300gb to hold more valuable data & hd images so that if anything goes pear shaped i can quickly be up again.

    luck

Dbh, I don't think those crucials will hot 500fsb at 4-4-4-12, but they might at 5-5-5-12 and a bit more voltage, I'll have a look if I get them (most likely) and see if I can get up to 500fsb with them as I'm aiming for a 450-480 fsb myself.

Supershanks, thanks for that link looks like I'll be able to do what I originally planed which is a good thing, I've read about the conflict issues and theres supposed to a fix coming soon as theres no bios update on there site.

And I'm still waiting to see if I HAVE to connect that molex connector in the middle of the board if I have one 8800gts (640mb)

Thanks! keep me posted Does anyone know for sure if you can run a E4300 on lower multiplier? Because I want to hit 500fsb when I get my build but everyone is like O_o! that on air 4.5Ghz?? nooo .. but tbh I just want 3.5Ghz @ 500 FSB lol.

Ive got a set of the 6400 Crucial Ballistix stuff, i havent really pushed them although they are sitting at 950mhz now.

Oh and there Support/RMA is excellent. They are all Scottish so it can be hard to understand at times

afaik the 5300 3-3-3- & the 6400 4-4-4- Ballistix are actually the same modules but with different SPDs. To hit DDR1000 on either you will have to slacken timings & probably increase voltage.
The 3-3-3- 5300 is £143 delivered from Crucial though & if you look around you can find a 5% off code.

    solved in beta BIOS

Tbh though I would recommend anyone with a 965/JMicron to spend £20 on a SATA optical (I did for the Gigabyte that I had before the QuadGT).

Ahh pants Is this not possible on any C2D board? Abit ones probably? (Read a lengthy thread on P5B-E Rev 1.02G and they do 500FSB nicely not sure on multi's though). I thought all locked chips allow lower multi just not higher (or is that AMD?).

In regards to the memory for hitting 500FSB. It'd be better to get the PC6400 than the PC5300 or spending the little extra over the PC6400 and getting the PC8500 OCZ SLI ram?

That's an option i was considering b4 i took the plunge on this build. But i must admit my end vision is something like daza's in that i want to add hd so sata ports are at a premium. I was originally running with 2x dvd writers but during trobleshooting what was a bad cpu i removed it. Just about got used to 1 again , though when i start gaming again may install it.

there's another QuadGT Arrived (56k warning) which may be useful, apologies if it's already known.

    luck

there's at least 1 guy on the abit-usa forums with an E4300/QuadGT combo - you could ask him?

May I ask why you want 3.5@500 rather than e.g. 3.6GHz @9x400? For 1 it would make your RAM choice easier.

I don't mind running the 3.6Ghz @ 400 FSB (if it will do that). But would like the extra headroom guaranteed at 500 FSB down the line if I'm going to go with the E4300 as everything will eventually be moving past 1333Mhz FSB so want something a bit more futureproof (gonna be a personal build for myself after 3 years so would like to get it right as I don't intend to do a rebuild for awhile to come after this). Thanks.

oh it will no problem assuming that your CPU will (edit: just been reading on XS where a few people seem to think that most E4300s run out of steam ~400fsb -whether it's true or not I don't know).

1333 is only 333 quad-pumped so we're already way past that
    400fsb=1600 & 500fsb=2000

Just did some reading looks like the E4300 won't go over 400 FSB and that's with changing the multipliers lower on boards that support them this is also apparent on the Quad GT from reviews which plain sucks. So what you think guys would perform better. 3.6Ghz @ 400 FSB or 3.5 Ghz @ 500 FSB.

don't think that there will be much in it (& probably app. specific) although by the sounds of things 500fsb on an E4300 isn't too likely to happen.
9x400 should be less stressful though for the boards & RAM.

E6400 is only another £20 over the E4300 though...

The only other thing though which runs cooler? Because from what I've read/heard the E4300 needs 20% overvolt to go over 3.2Ghz where as the E6300 doesn't?
