LO:MAC Locks Up

Every time I try and play it, it locks up on me!

I've even changed the settings to low now and still no good. The first time it happened my graphics card monitor (SmartDoctor) threw up an error saying that my GPU wasn't working properly and I needed to replace the fan! It's brand new though...

The only thing out of date with my system now is my CPU, but surely that can't be so bad that LO:MAC wouldn't work! All other games work fine, even Far Cry which I downloaded the demo of last night runs ok with full settings (which I would of thought would be more straining than Lock On).

I know I have a power issue and I need to replace the PSU coz I can't add my 2nd HDD or my CD-RW yet, but again, if all other games work ok, why would this one fail?

I have the latest Catalyst drivers, is there any known bugs with LO:MAC and them?

Are you overclocking your card ? Does it lock-up with your card at stock speed ? Also get rid of those damn Catalysts and get the Omega 4.1s

One thing I read, sure it was over on the dark side (ocuk) forums is not to use smart doctor and ATI cats together. They no likey each other much. Have a look there for smart doctor posts

It's running at stock speeds, though I did try and test if it ran overclocked a little bit for a few mins but I can't see that that would do any damage! Didn't see much difference, so set it back to stock.

What's the difference between Omega and Catalyst's then? Why do they make so many different versions! It's so damn confusing and not everything seems to work with everything else!

I'll try and get the Omega drivers sometime over the next couple of days...

Omega drivers are optimised and tweaked, I've always found them to be more stable and more tolerant to overclocking than the Catalysts.

Try them and see if you have the same problem.

When I tried the Omega 4.1's (in an effort to get Call Of Duty not to crash) I got massive screen corruption, totally unusable

I played the demo of Far Cry again last night, and it crashed after 5 mins with the SmartDoctor's error I was receiving before. Well, I couldn't d/l the Omega drivers, but I did uninstall Asus' SmartDoctor. Played again and it ran perfectly...

So I tried Lock On. Great, it didn't crash after 5 mins! So thanks Skii and McMav for your help! It still did crash after about 30mins of flight though, which was a shame!

I managed a succesful take off, a rather bumpy landing and I also shot down 3 hostile targets but there was no threat from them though... it was a quick flight thing.

Ok, I can only find Omega 2.5.14, not 4.1 as you all mentioned above...

And how on earth do I remove the Catalysts?

if yer running cats I believe you only have to remove the ATI control panel from add remove programs then install the omegas over the top.

I didn't uninstall anything and the Omega drivers seemed to install ok...

You have to uninstall the control panal afaik

but then if its working dont worry but if it starts to play up
deinstall everyting ati/omega related boot into safe mode and run driver cleaner

once thats done reboot
install ati drivers
reboot
remove ati control panel then install omegas
