    Re: Rift

I will most certainly be playing it. Just trying to get myself a PC for under £200 that's going to run it - for the betas I've been borrowing someone else's PC.

I absolutely love the game - not really got into any mmorpgs before this one, so it feels 'right' and a lot of the ideas are actually fresh for me despite apparently being ripped off from World of Warcraft.

    Re: Rift

I've been playing in the Rift betas since the first ones last year, and I love it really. There's plenty of different things to keep you involved, and for once the quest-grind is NOT compulsory as you can get lots of XP elsewhere, so quest-haters are safe there.

There's more to rifts than you might first think, there are massive zone-wide invasions by the planes that every player can take part in battling, no matter their level, no matter whether they are soloers or groupers.

The dungeons are nicely spaced out level wise I think, and they start teaching tactics right from the word go, instead of just T&S for 5 dungeons worth.

The soul system is awesome, I love that I can have my Cleric as a healer AND as a serious melee DPSer, depending on the situation. The ease of switching between the roles is great point too, and it encourages people to play more varied styles without having to constantly roll new alts.

The support from Trion is the best I have seen so far, I read a report on their forums of a team who got GM help - who fixed them up within minutes and then hung around to watch them fight a boss in an instance, before saying good job and moving on. Most people would connect "customer support" or "GM" with useless people who do nothing for days on end and usually end up being a computer.

The Trion team has also managed to work humour into the game: patch notes have strokes of random lol, and some of the artifact collections in game are awesome as well (Story Point Lost on Most People, for example )

    Re: Rift

I am sorry, but after having played the BETA I cannot see how this will be as good as WOW or even some of the other free MMO's out on the market. Although trailers and screenshots would lead you to believe the game is grapically awesome, its not quite so. Gameplay is awkward and some of the classes I've tried are lacklustre. Then again, I didn't play for too long - it bored me within the first 30 minutes and I didn't look back. Beta event ended soon, although there me be another event coming again. If anyone would like a beta invite, let me know.

    Re: Rift

30 minutes? Dude, it only gets good after about an hour or two - most free MMOs don't get good at all, let alone within 30 minutes. In fact, I'd challenge you to name a game from the last decade in any genre that's good within the first 30 minutes, especially RPG/MMORPGs.

And good it is.. I've preordered. Completely kicks the butt of WoW or any other MMORPG imo; I've been looking for a good mmorpg for nearly 7 years now. It's finally come...

The game just stays so damn fresh and exciting the whole time. It's genuinely dynamic, and the community aspect is brilliant - it feels incredibly to be working with an entire map of random people you don't know against a unified threat. I love the war horn that sounds as it says something like "a thick fog encroaches Gloamwood...". You know something's about to hit the fan at that point

Also, all the Betas are over. It gets real on the 24th... can't wait!

    Re: Rift

Started this Beta on Friday night and end on Sunday night, got to level 32 on a Riftblade.

I participated in plenty of PVE, Invasions, PVP, Dungeons, Crafting etc etc, this game is amazing.

I know for sure i've been sat on vent/ts in another game latenight chatting with mates and saying "i wish a game would take this and that from 1 game and this from another game and put them together to make one great game", well Trion in my opinion has done it, it uses ideas from WoW, LOTRO and Warhammer etc but it comes together fluidly.

After just over 2 days of play i have decided to pre-order for the Early start on the 24th, so its made an impression on me.

Look forward to seeing people ingame.

PS. Anyone in a Guild who is recruiting? Decided on server yet?

    Re: Rift

30 minutes.. did you make it out of the tutorial zone? I doubt it.. I really don't get how so many people play it for such a short time and then say "Oh this sucks, WoW is still the best and nothing will change". Althouhg many people form beta dislike Rift being compared to WoW, I believe it is inevitable because they are same genre. But to make such a decision so fast.. it's like saying everything in France is bad because you don't like the taste of their champagne.

The gameplay starts getting real when you get into the proper world, and it only gets better as you level imo. There's so much to do, many ways to play, many ways to add your own challenges, many game functions which Trion leave you to learn by yourself. Ofc this leads people to cry that they aren't being guided, usually the same people who would say it is too easy if they DID explain it.. personally I like being given free reign on my learning and exploration, it's part of the fun.

The betas were great, it was awesome to see just how much feedback was LISTENED to since the first one, anyone who say that Trion doesn't care, or that the game won't have a driving force, clearly haven't been around for very long in Rift.

I'll keep my play info up to date here when I can. Although I probably won't be able to make it for pre-release on thursday, half of my guild will be - I'll try to get server info up, perhaps I'll see a few Hexusites then A blast from the past maybe ^^

Oh, if anyone explored the Lake of Solace in the betas and found the buried treasures (8 of them), let me know. It drove me mad trying to find them, still 2 missing
