    IL2 or CFS

I like flight sims, but only the old fashioned dog fighting, missile lockons etc ruin modern style games. Reason i say this is i bought Falcon 4.0 a long time ago and all the 1000 keys and computers spoil it.
It looks like everyones been going on about how great IL2 is for ages, but i remember a while back i got the demo and i thought the gfx were poor and it wasnt all that good. Am i mistaken? How is it better than combat flight sim, i was considering getting that and a force feedback joystick.

Erm IL2 might have poor graphics, but IL2FB with Aces expansion pack has anything put poor graphics mate. As far as i'm aware CFS is more arcade like than FB, so with what you've said, and if you want to play with all us lot il2FB with AEP is the way forward.

I tried to give CFS a proper chance but it felt more arcade than sim imo.

IL2FB with AEP as stated the only way to go

CFS is ok, but if you want realism and depth, IL2 Forgotten Battles with the AEP is the only way forward. The original IL2 is looking pretty dated now, but I wouldn't say the gfx were that bad. Certainly its flight models and damage effects beat CFS hands down. IL2 Forgotten Battles is the daddy when it comes to realistic dogfighting. The realism is nicely scalable too, with servers using settings that make it easy to find other players, but still keep the plane physics real so you have to worry about angles of attack, speed et al. Or you can go for the 'full reall' servers where just finding yor enemy is a challenge, keeping sight of him in a turning dogfight is an even bigger challenge and shooting him down is almost as satisfying as winning the lottery 2 weeks on the trot.

The never ending debate this one.

For me, I tried CFS 1 , CFS2 and never "really" got into the whole combat flight thing

Then came IL2 and I was hooked.. .. up until its present form.

Tried CFS3 - tried to give it a go.. yet IL2 kept calling me back... until CFS3 came off the hard drive... no point it being on there.. I just never played it.

Then again, I dont play IL2 either.. I FLY it

If you like old fashioned dogfighting.. get yourself in one of these babies. set difficulty to maximum... and come ride the wave.

    I don't know.. it's just a feeling... .yet.. somehow I reckon you'd like it.
