The original crysis was also bad because the custom physics engine put a high load on the cpu but didn't make good use of multiple cpu cores
While it's not that well optimised that was one of the key reasons it became so popular as a benchmark at the time because it was a game that could take as much cpu and gpu power you could throw at it and still take more.

Yeh it was a benchmarker because it was the prettiest, most physically complex, and most demanding game going for a while. Once people figured out how badly optimized it was, well that changed. I wish someone would bring another game out with amazing future graphics though. Even if no one can run it properly haha. I want to see what we can expect in a few years!!
It scares me that so far down the line these games still won't run perfectly, but I guess I don't understand enough about optimization. I'm scared to buy the new one and find out that my new PC is already out of date :s
i finally tried it i maxed everything except for motion blur(i dont like it so its at medium) all at 1080p and averaged around 50fps
Don't worry mate. It was just that first one really! I played the second one, and while it didn't run as well as expected, it wasn't a complete mess for optimization like the first one. I wont be buying the third one anyway, as I found the second one so boring to play through. The multiplayer wasn't near enough to keep me interested either...
I guess the question is more how much would you have to spend now to get a solid 30fps out of it - just because you can't run it at hell-for-leather 60fps still, doesn't mean we haven't made progress
An no, I am not buying crysis just to see how it runs on an A6-3670k
