which tropico is best tropico

i've been watching some you tube series of tropico recently and it looks like something id like to get into, but which one is the best one to go for

it seems tropico 3 has the best reviews but is it worth going straight in for 5 the latest one?

would appropriate some advice in any form

First 2 are quite old now and are pretty basic, I always find them harder to play.

Tropico 4 is just a case of slightly updated version of the 3rd game with slightly better graphics and a whole set of new scenarios.

If you have never played Tropico before I would personally go with the 3rd game, easier to get into, nice visuals, great sound, its a fun game that you can lose hours to.

If you like the 3rd game then go for the 5th

There are demo's for both tropico 3 and 4 so start off by giving them a go.
5 seems to be more of a change than 3 to 4 was, the core game play seems to be the same but there's a lot of small mechanics changes from 3&4

The single player campaign on 5 seems to be a bit shorter, however there is the addition of multiplayer now, although the multiplayer still seems to be a bit buggy (quill18 has played a few multiplayer games on youtube, most have ended due to people crashing) and it does seem to be a bit of a tacked on addition.

Quill18 has played 3, 4 and 5 it'd be worth looking at those there are other youtubers of course but his plays are half component which means I can actually watch his games without wanting to rip my hair out.
You know things like actually paying attention to what's on the screen and reading stuff, figuring out the game mechanics not just assuming how things work, not repeating the same mistake for 10 episodes and actually learning how to play.

I've not really been able to get into 5 even though I've got hours and hours into 3 and 4. The single player has some nice tweaks but the missions feel too short (not that there aren't enough, they just finish abruptly. Perhaps it's because you're only on the two Islands so you can't ever get purely tourism or just industry going, and the islands are pretty small.

Having played all the Tropico's 5 was ok, I have completed it and yeah was and ok story, I didn't mind the two islands as they grow with the story but their are times I would have liked some variety.

I dont think you would go wrong with either 3 or 4. They are a far departure from the first ones in the series that's for sure.

Though I have a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot of DLC for Tropico 5 as their did seem to be a lot missing from the game.

3, 4 and 5 are all pretty samey really. I'd go with either 3 or 4 because they're finished products and available on the cheap now. It'll be a while before 5 gets all the bugs squashed, additions sorted and comes down in price.

As others have said, Tropio 3 is a fun game. Tropico 3 was my first game in the series and I had a quite a bit of fun being the dictator. Think if you want to try one, I'd recommend this. Also it's pretty cheap these days.

Makes me laugh hard and yet it's tricky to do well.. great balance

I've seen it quite a few times for ~£3, I'm sure of it. It's well worth picking up Absolute Power at the same time as well, if it's not already included.

Tropico 2 for me, I really liked the theme and atmosphere, and reminds me of good old times when gaming was more than just graphics.
