    Question Is it any good?

LOL, probly not the best place to ask such a question , since you all play WoW, but coming from an EQ / UO background, what is it that sets WoW apart from the other MMORPGs?

Im considering a new MMORPG since I gave up EQ last year (and tbh EQ2 doesnt really interest me much from what Ive seen, tho Ill probly give the trial a go) and am considering WoW.

Guess if they did a trail I could tell for myself, but since they dont, I dont much fancy buying the game and then finding out I dont like it. (Ok, I could probly sell the game for what I paid for it, along with the chars I make, but still...)

If there was 1 thing that bugged me the most in EQ, it was the way it went downhill so fast. You were either "uber guilded", in which case you had to play 100% serious, life or death, all the damn time, or "just for fun" in which case you never got anything good, cus all the uber guilds were camping the rare spawns.

I Guess what Im really looking for is a game that has good craft system (Like UO, which I still think is second to none for its craft system) with the atmosphere of EQ. If there was 1 thing that bugged me most about EQ, it was those annoying levels (not the "hell" levels, which were removed later on), but the ones where people with more effecient classes were off soloing everything in sight, while I sat there at the zone-in /LFG'ing all the time

So, whats it all about then?

Basically, WoW is everything EQ2 should've been and much more. If you like the Warcraft series and you play MMORPG's, then you'll love this!

If you want a well written, yet detailed, guide on what WoW is all about and all the races, classes, skills/spells and professions then check out http://www.worldofwar.net/, one of the sites I frequent for info. Check out the Characters links down the left hand side and the Professions FAQs links down the right, the hold a lot of good info.

Thing is, you can read as much as you like on fan-based websites, but they are exactly that, FANbased, meaning they rarely show the negative side of things.

I prefer to hear it "straight form the horses mouth" so to speak.

I see the proffesions, most are pretty similar to what you get in any other MMORPG, same goes for the way the game plays (as far as I can see).

What Im after is what real people think set the game apart from any other. None of this "its everything EQ2 should have been" becuase at the end of the day, who are we to say what EQ2 should and should not have been? its not up to us, its up to SOE.

What Im looking for is info from people who play the game for the game itself, not to say they are part of some uber guild, or all the rares they have, but just becuase its good to play. Whats to unique about WoW that makes it better than the others?

    Yes, it is good

You wont get the 'uber guid' problems of EQ etc, becuase most guilds arnt that big and the system doesnt quite work like that anyway.

in WoW the guilds are more of a way of keeping track of your mates, trading and grouping up for quests.

Finding a group for a particular quest is never normally hard, and most of the players ive met online are friendly enough and share out the loot. ofc its simply enough to quest on your own too

Well worth a purchase, and if you dont like it you will make a profit on ebay with it

Must admit, Ive always enjoyed playing the rogue.
Theres just something fun about being able to dish out huge damage and then disapear (hopefully LOL)

I Asume WoW has the same principle as EQ? Backstab / Evade etc,,,?

Im gonna have a read through allakhazams WoW site in a bit, I used to use that for reference with EQ.

Seems a shame that EQ has died so much, in its prime, my accounts (I had 3) would have been worth a pretty penny or 2 (All told, probly about £1500 lol)

I know someone who is a UO vet of like 6 years or more plays religiously and I think he's left it for WoW.
I used to play UO and there are some things about it that I still prefer a lot more to WoW - but those are just quirks I guess.
WoW is a lot more polished if you like that sort of thing.

I'm from a FPS background and always thought that MMORPG's we're for fat beardy people that have no lives.... Oh how I was wrong

WoW is absolutely fantastic. Sometimes it can be a little repetative when you have to kill about 20 certain animals or go and have to kill a NPC which theres a queue for but the whole "feel" of this game just oozes quality and I am having loads of fun.

Some tasks can be "hard" but thats the challenge and more often than not you'll always find people on the servers that are happy to help.

At certain times, I've become bored with the game. Mainly around lvl 18, then again around lvl 32. This is because you are always questing in the same area, or the quests are too tough. Once you get past them, its fun again.

I actually used to quite enjoy the questing, I remember spending days collecting parts for my Iksar monk quest (for celestial fists iirc), used to be quite enjoyable.
