What the phunk am I doing wrong ?

    Righty...

Can you lovely chaps & chapettes give me a hint as to increasing my cash stash as I'm always skint in WoW once I've reached about 2G its all spent on spell upgrades for my mage, then enchanting and tailoring upgrades as well, thus leaving me with anything between 10S to 90S depending on upgrades.

IS there a secret to making cash or should I go and farm the wooly monsters, make loads of wooly shirts and sell them to the vendors?

irrespective of what lvl you are you need to grind away to sell everything that drops, sell bags or go to the AH and see what people are buying that you can make. I sell linen (50s per stack) and wool (1.5g per stack) (silk on my server just don't sell 75s per stack if you're lucky), copper, tin, bronze etc. I did dragon scales once but they weren't that popular. See what people are willing to pay. Build up a reserve of about 10-15g then start buying stuff from the AH. I have on occasions (few days) owned all the linen cloth in the AH (stay on it for most of the day buying up everything people put in) and then you can dictate the price because there is nowhere else to buy from. Anyone offering to sell stuff cheaper than you outside or in the AH, just buy it then you increase the price and flog it in the AH. If you dominate the market for a few days you can make loads just up the pice buy 10/15 s a go and it's all profit. If the market collapses don't offload your stock for less than you paid for it, keep hold of it as the market will pick up - it always does. If you can't dominate a market then do as much of it as you can afford. best to do this with trade goods as it's the most in demand and the cheapest.

When I was grinding i got to about 150g when i was lvl 30. I didn't do any quests for ages just kill mobs for the harvest. Now i've got enough i'm questing again. That's how i did it. I'm not spending anything or upgrading until it becomes apparent that i'm struggling against mobs the same lvl as me.

Being a mage myself and level 36 I have 52gold and some change. The way I did it, is hit the instances like scarlet monestary and gnomeragen, just blast threw, pick up anything you find, fill your bags and sell it. What I am reading about on the forums is that once you hit the level 36/37 for a mage it might be wise to forget some of your new magic and save the money. At level 36 each spell costs 1g 10s then it goes to 1g 30s at 37 and so on so you can easily spend close 9g just on spells alone. With me doing alchemy and herbalism, I generally makee potions to dish out to the guild but low level grey herbs and green herbs I will sell, basically keep anything that will help you level your professions then sell all the rest. Other way of doing it is getting groups of twenty items so I could get 20 fadeleaf which is in demand, and put it on the AH just undercutting others you will soon see your money go up

Grind Stranglethorne vale, kill the gorilla's and pick up the gorilla heads and the bristly wiskers they sell for a bomb, normally 5s for a head and 3s for 2 - 3 a bunch of 5 bristles and they are common drops.

Reason your poor is the same reason my priest is... you do enchanting and tailoring so you dont have any magic items to sell on AH, all you linen / wool / silk / etc goes towards tailoring (either to increase skill or to make stuff to disenchant) so you cant sell that. Everything you make is dischanted so thats pointless and its very hard to sell enchantments anyway!

My Priest is always poor and i have loads of skill i still need to buy and thats why i started a Warrior over the weekend, my money cow By lvl 18 i had 9g and thats after buying new armor and weapons for warrior more or less every level.

Mining, Skinning, selling cloth & selling everything that green or above on AH is the only real ways to make money until you get high level professions

    Cheers...

I might do wailing caverns a few times to rake up the goodies so to speak

To be honest, since the battlegrounds have opened I've been there more than anything racking up kills galore. In 2 days I've racked over 200 honourable kills battling with my lowly level 25 mage having some really EPIC battles.

Ahh well, suppose I better get to the southern barrens and gather wool and other items to sell.

    Cheers for the advice.

    yours Sincerly,

    A Very Poor Mage

The best thing about a mage basically everything you picl up item wise can be sold, obviously if cloth armour appears and it is useful wear it sell your old stuff, any other green/blue/purple item you find may aswell be sold getting to a fair bit of money turn around.

once you get up in the mid-late level 40's it's easier to make money questing, most of the quests have a reward of at least 1G, more often than not 1G50.

Then you can farm instances solo (just make sure you have lots of bag space!) for items

I had enough gold when I hit lvl40 that I bought a mount immeditately. Its not too hard, I never sold anything at the time on AH, and I never bought anything from AH before then. The way I see it, lvling up to 40 is real easy, and you 'out grow' your equipment very fast, so no point in buying a new item just because its 1 or 2 lvls above the one you are using already, leave this until later lvls as you lvl up much slower.

As for instances, before lvl40, I only ever did one, so you don't necessarily need to do them for grinding to get extra money.

The best way to earn money is to grind. Just constantly kill mobs a few levels lower than you, preferably humaniods/undead, as they drop cash and cloth. As someone metioned before, you're poor because you're an enchanter My alt is an enchanter/talior, currently at lvl 32 and level 225 enchanting and lvl 205 talioring, only because I fed loads of money into it from my main character who is lvl 60 (loads meaning around 30g).
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Depends on your class, being a rogue means you have to keep on top of your armor etc as you level....up close and personel in battle, you cant afford to skimp on decent stuff....eshpesh at the lower levels before poison and duel weild are involved
