Some photos I took on Boxing Day of the statues at Crosby beach.....Most of them looked really interesting all covered in barnacles!
It was also the first time I had been out and used my new "Nifty Fifty" that I got for Christmas!

I thought I would post these as well - this was my first go of using my new Kenko Extension Tubes....
Quite pleased with the outcome considering it was my first play with them! :)

does it give good coverage, or do you need to be pretty close to your subject?

I know it's dark, I preferred it this way :)
A quick bash at water drop photography, just messing around with a gaffer taped set up. Some okayish results, when I've got the time and patience I look at trying to prepare a bit more

Always fancied a crack at the old water droplet game too so had a bit of a go with some spare time I had on my hands today.

rox0r, that is incredible!
do you mind if i ask about what shutter speed, iso, aperture and focal length you were using?
Ah nuts, Exif got stripped out.

Shot with 40D, Canon 60mm USM Macro
is the patterned background under the water?
lovely shot rox0r, lovely and crisp - the water looks like glass :D

You did better than my attempt. Out of about 10 pictures, this was the best one (well, that wasn't of its backside!)

Why is the wall at the front out of focus, but the front of his jacket not? A tad less blurring on the left might look more realistic :)
My friends are zombies.

Had a go at developing some film for the first time the other day... mixed results. I think a combination of not fixing for long enough and/or some bromide drag screwed things over a bit. Still, lesson learned!
Camera was a Pentax K1000, 50mm 1.7 and Ilford HP5 400
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/1...lstratford.jpg
I'm currently using society chemicals (partially the reason the fix went awry was because i used some ready mixed stuff that was from god knows when!) but i think i'm going to buy my own to keep things consistent.

Inredible kushtibari
a great scene, but lacking in pop
I was trawling through my "old" collection of photos and discovered this.. all processed and wasn't exported!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/...5ebd668ef0.jpg
Blastuk: I really like that.
ma10: use it any way you want mate.
Bobster: Only been using a DSLR for a couple of weeks and I'm keen to learn so any criticism is welcome. What do you mean by 'pop'. Pic is absolutely as it came out of the camera - no editing , not even to crop it.

Taken with my cheapy z33 whilst on the plane :) Just thought it was cool!
Took me a while to recognise the fin emblem, but finally realised they're from 1435 Flight at Falklands.
0id: Is that one of the wolves from that Wolf Man documentary a while ago?
some more reversed 50 macro

muddyfox are you going to the falklands?
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2762/...fc8459dd_o.jpg
Stupid pigeon scaring the nicer birds away :D
Huh? I can see the tail I just don't recognise the emblem on it.
as mentioned above, they are Typhoons of 1435 flight out of the Falklands
Oh right missed that post sorry. Don't think I've ever managed to confuse Typhoons with another fighter before, I was viewing the webpage through a tiny, low-res mobile phone screen though and the outilne is fairly similar from that angle.
Yeah, the chin-intakes means people often confuse them. I'm going to guess (probably wrongly! :)) by the config on them (3 fuel tanks, no armaments) that this was during the operation to get them down there and the picture was taken from one of the tankers?
more messing around with macro
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2802/...8881ca67_o.jpg
my l33t skills ;)
seriously though, all macro lenses are generally extremely sharp. Combine with flash, careful focusing and stopping down the aperture generally good results will follow :)
YorkieBen, how are you getting on with that macro ring flash you bought on Ebay - has it turned out to be a good purchase?
no its not stuffed... damn Robins, swear they know when im pointing a large lens at them..
http://www.pbase.com/bob_hall/image/122380112.jpg
shot through double glazed window..
Good picture Bob , really like that.:)
Yeah, I've noticed robins do tend to pose for photos for some reason...
the macro flash is working well, makes lighting macros a piece of cake!
Bobster do you have any particular technique for shooting through double glazing to prevent loss of contrast/reflections etc? Or do you use a polariser to help cut out the reflections?
Finally how do you find the sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 with a teleconverter - does the tc affect the image quality/focus speed much?
WRT minimising reflections, putting the lens as flat against the glass as is humanly possible always helps. Bit tricky with big lenses, but easily doable.
the 70-200 is a little sluggish when used with the 2X tele
but am still able to get shots like this with it

http://www.pbase.com/bob_hall/image/73549902.jpg
http://www.pbase.com/bob_hall/image/81838299.jpg
oh and pushing the lens against the glass removes most reflections :) and a tweak of curves brings the contrast back :)

psychic :p
(actually I checked out the photo's exif)
Thanks chaps. :)
Tried to get a decent one of it in flight too, this was the best I could manage....
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x...9editsmall.jpg
Seemed very hard to get a crisp shot of the bird, anyone any tips? I'm assuming I need the fastest shutter speed I can muster along with a steady hand?
fixed ;)
and thanks :D
i miss going up to Salisbury to shoot them, i will get out again when i have my new camera body :)

Like the Heron and the wee tank.
One from a walk yesterday morning doing the Fairfield horseshoe above Ambleside and Grasmere. Just ordered a set of ND Grads which should hopefully help with these type of pics.

Army helicopters borrowed by the navy actually ;)
I was going to say that usually Army Lynx's have skids but Navy ones have wheels.
Kushtibari, you live in a beautiful part of the world there and your landscape photos are great! :)
Speaking of choppers.. this was a complete snap shot, so apologies for the quality :p

That's pretty cool though... and the quality seems fine to me!?! Where did you see it? Any idea what it is? Polizia?
