UltraII is 10MB/sec, Extreme is 20MB/sec when pulling off onto PC

oh and Extreme copes better with higher/lower temps etc

Perfect, I think I'll go with the faster one then. Thanks mate

Another quick question, I'm pretty sure I have lost my neck strap. Can I buy these on the cheap somewhere?

Weird - sandisk's ultra II SDHCs are much slower:

    - Class 2: 2 MB/s
    - Class 4: 4 MB/s
    - Class 6: 6 MB/s

SanDisk Ultra II SDHC cards are Class 4.

    (SanDisk SDHC ULTRA II Cards
    8GBSDHC)

And check out this bargain: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-8Gb-...517860&sr=8-11

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

I'd take the slr. I went round italy with my 1dII so a d50 should be p*ss easy. I'd recommend a crumpler shoulder bag for two reasons - firstly it doesn't shout 'steal me I'm a camera bag' and secondly its easier to get at lenses and bits. ah and a third reason is they're great bags. I use one and it carries loads (1d, 70-200, 24-70, 17-35, flash, lens cleaners...basically every thing for a shoot), the only problems I got whilst traveling were the tuts from waiting girlfriend as I composed my shots...you can't rush good quality!
as for ultra vs extreme - the d50 can't take advantage of the extreme 3's speeds but since its so cheap you may as well get it and you're set for future. and get multiples of 2gb rather than one massive one. I've not had a card go bad on me but have lots a couple of images through corruption...

check your kit works before you go. and always always pack the compact. I kept mine in a pocket, even with the 1d on me the compacts can sometimes really help out in a pinch.

Grabbing a few sandisks is tempting me. They're well priced for the capacity and nice and fast.

Re: Holiday - SLR or digi cam?

Fun isn't it? I need to contact canon and ask them what class I need for my new camera - i can't see any indication on their web site. Perhaps it's in the manual - it'll be here tomorrow.
Given the highest class for 4gb and above appears to be 6 - I guess that's as fast as cameras need right now..
