transfer files onto a canon 400d

hi i moved some of my pictures from my canon 400d onto my pc.

however, i can't seem to tranfer pictures from a pc to a canon 400d?

the camera and pc are connected via a usb cable.

an error stating: "the device does not allow files to be placed in this location"

    any help please?
    thanks

do you have a compact flash reader (or whatever the card it uses) ? It may be easier to do it that way if the system doesnt allow from PC to camera.

My Nikon does allow both ways, but Im not sure if this is the norm for Canons....

nope no CF reader as of yet.
    just ordered one of these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product

    so hopefuly that will help.

may i ask if with your nikon, when you plug the camera in, does it come up on your 'computer' window as a portable device, or something else?

Re: transfer files onto a canon 400d

Canon SLRs all need drivers and appear as a camera or something.

Nikon cameras appear as a regular USB mass storage device, so you could use a Nikon SLR as an overblown card reader if you wanted

As for card readers, I would highly recommend getting a quality card reader. I have a Lexar Professional and it's great because I can transfer photos off my Sandisk Extreme cards at about 25MB/sec. Fast card readers and fast memory cards make dealing with an SLR and hundreds of photos slightly less cumbersome.

Re: transfer files onto a canon 400d

It's just a card reader and you can do anything with the data on the cards, copy it to a PC, copy data to the card. Just like a USB stick.

    In short: yes.

Re: transfer files onto a canon 400d

Just to report back, i purchased one of these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product

and now i can move files to and from my cf card successfully.
although i am not sure i would recommend the product for users who use CF cards often, as the male pins for the CF card don't seem to be the most secure.
