    Canon 400D

yeah, ok, so it's another camera advice thread.

I have saved up my pennies and decided i'm going to splash out and get a canon 400D. I've used both the Nikon D50 and the Canon 350D and I much prefer the feel of the canon, so that's what i've gone for.

My issue is finding the cheapest most reputable place I can to get it from.

So far, the best place for price and reputation i've found is Jessops at £479 (£499 with £20 discount code).

I'm looking for camera + kit lens.

So can anyone find anywhere any cheaper? I've been thinking about going to jessops and seeing what they had by way of refurbished bodies, but not sure they'll have much, refurbished bodies tend to be like hens teeth here!

    cheers!

Having a quick look on Kelkoo it would appear that the price u have found is the cheapest.

Jessops were doing internet price matching for DSLRs. Check out your local store to see if they still are.

I wouldn't go for a refurbished body with the lower DSLRs. The saving isn't really worth it.

If you use the relevant voucher from vouchercodes.org you should get 10% off

that voucher doesnt work. the only one that i've found that does work is the "sale20" that gets 20 quid off for purchases between 400 and 699

the £20 discount doesnt work in the shops, it stipulates that on the site.

doesnt matter - print off a screenshot of the order with the final price and take it in, they'll pricematch it

I would hastily avoid jessops and their 'price matching policy' like the plague. what they don't say is the places they price match to are their own sites...convenient eh? most online places are pretty solid so I'd go that way m'self. as noted - canon outlet can be good, warehouseexpress.com, bristol cameras come to mind readily...
but I'd avoid jessops, they'll try and sell you a memory card for £70 and its only worth £25 online. scum.

Wasn't there a thread in here not so long ago where people were able to get their local Jessops to price match any website, and not just for DSLR bodies, but other kit too?

yeah. they can't compete with online prices normally, and don't try to. the prices they charge aren't normally any higher than other shops on the highstreet. I'd personally ALWAYS go to jessops, as its a hell of a lot easier to take something back to a shop than fill in rma forms and post it etc

Warehouseexpress has very good service, the Scan equivalent of photographic retailers, and it's normally 20-40 quids cheaper than Jessop so might worth have a look

I dont need to buy a memory card cos my wee rubbish kodak takes CF and i've got a 1GB card for that they wont sell me anything i dont need/want. Also, Jessops is the cheapest place i've found even on the web for it so as well as being quite convenient

    cheers will have a look.

*edit* just checked out warehouseexpress.co.uk and they're £480 too.

Does anyone know what jessops are like for cash transactions? I mean are they likely to give me any sort of discount if i pay in cash?

Perhaps you'd like to name *any* high-street store that will give you a discount for paying cash ?

Any that do that will be smaller / family owned places. Large scale retailers will be run by a manager who wont have much say in anything like that.
