I'm thinking of getting a dSLR so it seems a decent choice to start with.
just so you know the d50 has now dropped to a new low of £350 b.o! which is a terific price ,why any 1 would get it with the kit lense tho i dont know
anyway where are the pics famished? ttiuwop
& you can get a KM 5D b.o. for £325 if you know where to look ...
since KM no longer make cameras how long will parts be around for? I'm not knocking them, still think the cameras are ok, but since announcing they're teaming up with sony they stopped producing cameras. shame really.

Actually they are still producing cameras & lenses in the same factories (51% owned by KM & 49% now by Sony) with the same people, just that now they will be branded SonyOriginally Posted by shiato storm
Parts will be around for long enough although I doubt that the cameras will be working in 30 years the way that the good old manuals do.
KMs extended warranty isn't dear & it's handled independently (& includes accidental damage so worthwhile getting anyway) so in the event of being unrepairable & unreplaceable you would get a similar model from another mfr.
& not forgetting that there are plenty of 3rd party lens makers (incl. Tamron whom Sony have a large shareholding in) that make KM mount lenses too.
I know it's a little late to benefit famished, but what do people reckon to picking up older models off ebay...potential for falling foul of dodgy sellers/poor product condition etc. I can see a few Canon 10Ds selling for around the £400 mark (body only) and I have to say it's a cracking camera, although people may argue that the newer cheaper models are actually superior (I still haven't found fault with mine and I've been using it for a couple of years now).

there's nothing wrong with a 10D...much as there is nothing wrong with my dad's 30yr old olympus. each are capable of taking great images, its those that complain the whole time that they 'must have' the latest thing available that gets on my nerves...its not the camera that takes the picture its who's behind it...

I can't argue that one professional optical SLR is pretty much the same as the next, but surely one generation of digital SLRs lacks certain features that the following generation may well carry, sometimes to the extent of being essential for the photographer?
Certainly it's not the camera but the person that takes the better picture, but all things being equal, what would you rather have, an EOS 10D or an EOS 1D Mark IIx?
