Obviously it's your call as to what's allowed and what isn't, but it has always been blanket-banned subject matter afaik. If that's no longer the case, then great, because I would be interested in discussing it. Seems a bit inconsistent, that's all, and I'm guessing there was a reason why everyone was so anxious to prevent discussion of it in the past? I know Apple have a habit of litigation :/

Re: Make your PC look & feel like a Macbook

See I dont follow Mac so hadnt seen those posts in the past. Given Apples stance on prosecuting it is best if it is not discussed here then. This stance is to protect HEXUS and the userbase. They are pretty quick to throw the book at anyone and everyone.

Anyone interested in that side of things, like I said, there is a world of info out there on Hackintosh side of things so I would suggest searching it out for yourself. I was thinking on Mac beginning last year and did look into it briefly, success rate doesnt seem overly good in all honesty. Mac software works best on a Mac!

It is perfectly legal however to install Windows on a Mac, you literally have to own a full license copy of Windows and you can dual boot the machine using Bootcamp.

As for harpooning users, try not to do that to often!

Its a decent thread and I dont want to have to close it

If you do harpoon me i will be forced to phone the police, Ferral. (Yes, i am that lame)

Obviously since it is illegal and you dont want it talked about, there is no problem there. But i doubt they would bother, there are loads and loads of forums and people on youtube etc dedicated to Hackintosh and i dont even think anyone has been prosecuted for it. The same as people Pirate software and post of forums about it and nothing really happens.

Re: Make your PC look & feel like a Macbook

Yeah, agree Pancake. There is loads of info out there on it with forums dedicated to that side of things so essentially there is no need to discuss it here, go there and discuss it with people that know one hell of a lot about it. End of the day we dont want to be drawn into that side of things however, so lets leave that out of this discussion.

On another note I have seen Windows running on an iMac, ran really well and there was good driver support and everything worked like a charm, seen it on an iMac in an Apple store. Basically best of both worlds. Only downside to that is that the Apple hardware is so expensive, yeah it looks nice but I do prefer a dedicated Windows PC.

Re: Make your PC look & feel like a Macbook

There's a guy on these forums, can't remember the username, who runs Windows on a Mac Pro because according to him it was the best value dual-socket computer available at the time. It's certainly possible, and at the end of the day Mac hardware now is no different to a normal PC so there's no technical hitch.

The only thing I wonder is whether people actually use the dual boot functionality much on these devices. For a brief period I had a Vista/XP dual boot, since it was 'the thing to do' at the time, but I found myself only ever using one of the installations since it was such a massive pain to shutdown and restart (especially pre-SSD) purely to use one software package. I preferred to just manage without where possible.

As for the thread, possibly a more helpful way of phrasing the question I wanted to ask earlier:

Why do you want a Mac instead of your current Windows machine?
Why do you want to make your current PC more like a Mac?

If that's being too intrusive then no problem, just feel like it would help people make better suggestions.

Yeah and a real pain to fix if anything goes wrong, tbh im more of a fan of the blander looking laptops such as Thinkpads. They look like they are made for doing important work and buisnessy things. I guess that's because they are business laptops anyway. And they are using in the International Space Station. So they must be good

IF someone has desigend their laptops for the ISS doesn't make them good.

I think Apple make very good laptops like Macbooks. in terms of other devices such as tablets and smartphones i think Android still rules.
