    What I think would sell

SFF (of indeterminate brand...Aopen, Soltek etc)
    Nforce 2 with Soundstorm
XP1800 ish....(or whatever new model is now renamed..Sempron?)
    512 (2x256)
    80gig HDD
Nothing in the AGP slot...running Onboard Geforce 4MX.
    XP Home
    Liteon CDR-RW, no DVD
Logitech wired Keyboard n Mouse kit

Its out of date stuff now...and it still works.

If these were ready made, ready installed, for £299 plus £20 delivery....they'd sell.

We all know we;d overclock them, so as long as they market them as default CPU's its up to us.

    Lan..sorted.....
    sound...sorted....
    Video.....sorted...upgradeable.

    Who makes them...just like that?

    Anyone?

    AOPEN XC CUBE £163
    Sempron 2400 £48
    Liteon 52x32x52 £18
    2x256 PC3200 (higher than we need ) 2x£28 = £56
    120gb HDD £47
    XP Home inc SP2 £59

Now thats all at retail....£391...thats what I could build it for. From just Scan...no buying power...no volume.

When people say to me "will you build me a PC" I invariably say "nope...too much danger of you whining at me..find one I'll tell you if its any good, and show you how it works when it arrives"

with a batch of lower spec CPU's (mobile XP's) and a cheaper deal on hdd and burner etc.....it MUST be possible.

Maybe loose the SFF and have a standard ATX case, a mobo etc....

    it MUST be possible!!!

then with the Upgrade potential....such as "New Radeon for that Sir?" or "XP Pro Sir?" "Modem Sir?" the website would get a chance to get more dough.

Either way....that is the basics of a PC that will play almost anything, for the next 18 months, no sweat.

And WE could buy it, confident it really is a gaming PC for gamers?

Do you know of any of you r family who would need more than that this Christmas? Maybe an extra £15 for an OEM Modem.

    Sorted...job done....

and an extra £50 for a warranty....

Well you get my drift...a ready made REAL PC...with ENOUGH MEMORY to handle XP properly, and play The Sims, or Harry Potter on Christmas day when it arrives.

    Good sounds......yup
Good graphics....yup...it'll run 3d mark 2001 and impress the HELL outta your Dad!!! He'll SEE what he just spent his money on. AND you can upgrade it for him later. It'll only need a new vid card to play Doom III !!!

What do ya think? Is it possible?

He just had a very very slow day at work

It is a very interesting prospect though, I would certainly be interested in one since I am looking to switch to a SFF pc.

to be honest...I'd go t the Small ATX case/Mid ATX case if I could get all that for £300.

Its a value component thing...a "I wanna buy something that IS good...really good....and that will play all my games and is upgradable " thing.

    Its a real PC in short. Right ram....right HDD...right CDR...right OS (legit copy).....right mobo....right sound.....halfway decent vid and its upgradeable....right LAN.....right PSU...right everything.

Loads of USB ports.....etc etc etc....basically what nForce did for us, but which we still dont get offered.

Get your Dad to buy an PC with an immpressive P4 at 2.8 gig, but with 128mb, a gargantuan 200 gig hdd, but an Intel Extreme chipset....and watch the depression set in when it wont run a Demo he got on a CD....and when it wont run more than email or Word if Media player is open.....

    RAM.....VID CARD......upgradeability....

    in short....quality

Yep love the idea, but the concept is not the problem, the selling them is, what you do with warranty?, how many can you buy to bring the price down. Can you afford to do this?. What if they don't sell?

Its a business idea and its a good one but you forgot a monitor, the compare it to Dell's prices and ask yourself CAN I COMPETE?
