    New PSU: Silverstone ST50F-P ??

I have decided that it'd be wise for me to update my now very aged PSU (bought in approx 2005).
It will power my system as current (Sandy Bridge G620, Radeon 6850) although i'm likely to stick in an overclocked Core i5 2500K at some point, and although my 430W Tagan has been sufficient, i'm thinking of getting a 500W just to be on the safe side. I'd like for it to last for at least another 5 years or so.

This Silverstone SST-ST50F-P seems pretty good, i certainly want modular; I like that it is fully modular as opposed to my part-modular Tagan.

The Silverstone is on Today Only for £52 - are there any noted problems with it, or are there any other obvious alternatives which warrant an increased budget?
I don't have an absolute budget as such, but would wince at paying close to £100 to be honest.

    Thanks all

Re: New PSU: Silverstone ST50F-P ??

Nice, decent price too and Silverstone are not bad makes.

Yeah definitely upping the wattage is best, even if you don't need the extra watts.

I use a TX650 Corsair for my computer, which is extreme for my build

    500GB 7200RPM SATA
    HD 4830
    Athlon 64 x2 2.9ghz (Brisbane)
    Generic ROM drive
and of course loads of case fans

But hey, why not buy a really good power supply, so you don't need to go out in the long run. I have lots of room for upgrading, whereas some people would go out and go 'this will do'... year later 'oh no I have to upgrade again, or it'll go boom..'.

Oh, and the general advice around, don't go cheap for power supplies, only go for what people list on here or other major computing forums. If you haven't heard of it, it isn't usually good. Always look at the bad/good power supply lists.

Because not all standard/expensive power supplies = good....

If you want good power supplies which are top end, OCZ, Thermaltake, Corsair etc are up there.
But silverstone, seasonic, ace (only some models!), FSP , hiper if I remember rightly are ok

BUTT!!!!!!!! I would ONLY recommend the best, Corsair, OCZ, Thermaltake, Corsair, Antec, Enermax for systems.

For standard computers, other models would do. But for higher up computers, definitely go for a top end.

    Corsair TX650 = £75. Modular is a bit more.
    OCZ 550W = £53 (When I last checked)

This is teh same brand and has more value.

My advice would be to go for something thats quiet, and has a high level of efficiency as it is the heart of your pc and you never know when an impulse upgrade may warrant additional power
