    Silverstone ST75F psu problem

I baught this psu recently from Scan and suspect that the fan is faulty. I am wondering if anyone else has this psu. The problem is that the fan appears to spin too slow. From cold the fan would even stop momentarily before picking up a little speed. Silverstone support have been very good and supplied a report with fan rpm vs. load at room temperature. The minimum speed should be at least 1600rpm, but I reckon the fan is less than 500; with no difference even when I used a X1800XTX video card in the system. I can't be sure of the exact rpm without some sort of tachometer/stroboscope and marking one of fan's blades.
The fan is completely silent with hardly any airflow.

Does anyone who owns a high end psu that has a regulated fan speed (preferebly the st75f) think that what I am seeing is normal?

I also own a Hiper HPU-4K580 which has a (main) fan rated at 700 to 1800 rpm which at least behaves normally! I can't compare the airflow with the Hiper because that has an extra fan at the back.

    TIA

i have same psu, been fine since day one no issue's,yep and it is a quite one but you can still feel the heat being pushed out if you place your hand around the back of it. don't think it even get to 800 rpm let alone 1600 rpm

thanks zia, that's very interesting. I've had a replacement but I agree with you in that the fan speed is nowhere near 1600rpm regardless of load. I suspect a dodgy batch even now!
Is yours anywhere near the speed shown in the review (just google for "3dgameman review st75f" to get the link) ?

    thanks

I might try and measure the speed with a stroboscope but a good one is very expensive...
or I could use my camcorder frames per second and mark one of the fins with a sticker or something? at 30fps I should see at least a rotation of 320 degrees (1600rpm/hertz)

If your having issues with the PSU as well, the best thing would be to log the issue Here and the returns/tech department will be able to give you assistance and guidance accordingly.
