How did the authorities find out?

I assume it was only after the brother admitted he was the father of the children.

Surely it would have made more sense to claim the father was unknown? Everything else happens in the privacy of their home, and if the sister died the brother would automattically have a custody claim as live-in family....

    Just seems a bit dumb.

Epilepsy, learning difficulties and special needs. They all strike me as disabilities, if not as severe as many out there.

But yeah, the whole brother/sister thing is a bit eww. The whole marrying your cousin thing is also creepy and that's legal!
If the Earth is a sphere how do you travel to the ends of it?

To be honest - yes. Who else will do it? It is absolutely vital to the continuation of the human race that we do not reduce the size of the 'gene pool', we need to keep the diversity to facilitate our basic survival and to keep our race evolving.

Its true that one or two couples, or even a few hundred thousand brother/sister couples would not really make much difference..but with our current society you cannot have one rule for some people and one for the rest. So even though it seems stupid to prosecute this one couple it needs to be done to maintain the integrity of the legal system. If the German government let them off, or give them a lesser sentence then that serves as a precedent for any future cases, and could only encourage more people to act on feelings they may have for their siblings.

Of course there is the human rights argument against this - that if they love each other then what is the problem?

My personal view is that this is wrong, and that they should be prosecuted for it...

    Always? as in:

'I think I'll take the dog for a walk, oh look he found another penis'

'Better keep the dog out of the bins, he'll get fat on all those penises'

That got a literal LOL from me. One of the funniest things I've read on here for ages.
