    Top Up Fees

Just been watching Mr Blair on Newsnight or whatever with Jeremy Paxon on Top Up Fees. Just wondered how others viewed the new scheme, especially seeing as I know some people are of that age when they want to go to university.

I think Blair made a good case - for once.

He did put it very well, its still a bad idea though, but then being a college student considering going to uni in a couple of years i'm biased.

I didn't see this particular Newsnight special, but if it was possible for Mr. Blair to make top-up fees seem a good idea, then Paxman and co are clearly just as bad as attacking on this issue as the lib dems. dgr hits the nail on the head, in my opinion.

well his policy does have one thing going for it, and that is that your wont have to pay the fees upfront anymore and that will lift some of the burden, the bad thing about this policy is that it looks as though a lot of the money rasied is gonna be used up in the beaurcratic nightmare that this project looks likely to be doomed to. the other thing is, students already leave with an average debt of £20k why the hell are they considering a larger burden on students?

personaly I would prefer a graduate tax because people who graduate are likely to get higher paid jobs and should contribute that bit more back for the education they received that has gotten them into such a nice job. of course this is just fantasy and most students leave uni to go work ina call centre or fast food restaurant.

another thing I find odd is, why does blair want 50% of people to go to uni????
do we need that many educated people? and wont it just mean that we have more eliteism (sp?) and that any one who does'nt get a good degree may as well have not bothered?
