Question Death Penalty. Yes or No

Few days ago a mother of 2 was murdered by an ex boyfriend from another local village, she has left 2 kids behind (3 and 7 if my mind is correct)now being looked after by their grandparents. Also from what we have heard the kids were hiding under a bed upstairs when it was happening and it was one of them that found her and managed to call the police but unfortunately to late. She was beaten to a pulp and friends of mine and my wife have heard after being tortured and battered had her head beaten of a wall continuously until death.

Quite scary really as my wife knew this woman pretty well and also it all happened around 100 yards away from our front door. They have the man currently in custody and is up in court 27th February.

Now this brings back the old does he deserve the death penalty for what he has done. My personal opinion is you take a life it is eye for an eye and should be treat the same way to stop him getting out and doing it again.

BBC NEWS | England | Wear | Man is remanded on murder charge

So ultimately, what is everyone elses take on this?

Re: Death Penalty. Yes or No

In cases where they plead guilty or the proof is incontravertable, then yes, it would send a clear message to everyone. I do think each case should be treated on it's individual merits.

Also there is the question of the method of execution. Judicial hanging? Probably quicker & more effective than gas chamber, electric chair & lethal injection.

Never going to happen, this country is far too over PC.

Re: Death Penalty. Yes or No

I'd say no, in the view that a life long sentence in jail is more punishing.

Of course the prison cells would have to be turned into holes in the ground with only hay to sleep on, a daily flogging of the inmates and just the bare minimum of food and water given to them to survive.

For me, I'd rather die than spend the rest of my life in a prison, knowing I'd never be coming out again would scare me more than a quick death would.

Interesting. I think for certain cases yes. Prisons are overcrowded and life does not always mean life.

Re: Death Penalty. Yes or No

See, that adds to it. If the prisons were more harsh as in 25 years ago, knowing that they were going there as a punishment would be enough. But now there is TV's, health clubs and so on, it has become an easier life for a lot of inmates that may even now have a better life inside than what they origionally had.

There are people that have been locked up for many years who have commited lesser crimes without any harm to another person. However there are murderers and rapists that have come and gone in less time. Our penal system needs to go back to basics and make their lives hell on a day to day basis so they know every day what they have done and have time to reflect instead of putting feet up and watching tv.

I still think though in cases like the one I mentioned it should be cut and dry with harsher punishments and death penalty seriously considered.

Re: Death Penalty. Yes or No

No, because it is not possible to reconcile the death penalty with a modern civilised society for numerous reasons, because it does not work as a deterrent, and also because the even most rudimentary nods towards due process and justice make it more expensive than whole life in prison.

That's not to say that I would not personally murder to avenge certain hypothetical transgressions, just that it is impossible for the state to do so. And I'd do so either when I thought I'd get away with it, or if life was such that I did not care if I got caught or not, and in both cases the potential punishment would be irrelevant to me

Yes, and bring back Hanging, Drawn and quartering. Also chop off pedo's privates and have their foreheads tattoed.

Awesome - let's go live in Afghanistan, where there are never any miscarriages of justice. After all you'd be a fool and a communist to say so.

Sorry, I meant Daily Mail Island.

    Agree

I'd have to go with 'yes', as I personally feel prisons are a waste of tax payer money. If there is concrete evidence and the person admits to being guilty then I see no reason why capital punishment should not be given.

Exactly why some of them come out and re-offend just so they can go back to their cushy cells where they have no rent to pay, no bills to pay and meals provided.

First thing first we need to address this and make prison such an experience that they do not want to offend ever again.

I agree with you, an eye for an eye. As long as there is significant proof and they even pleaded guilty. The thing i dont get, if you plead guilty you get a lesser sentence, surely thats retarded because you did it, same punishment if your in denial. They should also, make the prisoners work, pumps etc for our electricity, manual labour didnt kill anyone and these guys deffintly deserve it, would benefit all. Why the hell do they get sky and stuff, somethings are better then what i have xD.

Simply killing him sounds like a bit of a light sentance really.

that reminds me of monkey dust! well sorta

it should be reintroduced, how much would it cost to keep a 25 year old man for life in prison? surely a stupid amount....

i thought about the same question when i read about that bloke in the papers who killed five prostitutes... i mean FIVE people!! and he gets to go to prison to 'think' about what hes done tbh... he should die, take a life knowing fully well what you were trying to do e.g not self defence then you should die.

That would be a cool reality tv show, a bit like big brother but more fun to watch
