    Re: Obama or McCain?

I don't know the first thing about those two candidates or what they stand for (other than 'change'). From the point of view of someone who has done zero research on any of the candidates though, I seem to hear more about Obama than any other contestants. I first heard of Obama less than a year ago when someone posted We are the Ones and Yes We Can on the DailyTech forum. I thought nothing of it at the time other than there is this guy named Obama who is running for president. On the other hand, I couldn't even name the other candidates. And having followed CNN the past few weeks and I seem to keep hearing about Obama (and how he will be the nominee for the Democratic party), more than any other candidates.

Then, last night, I decided to look up anything amusing on YouTube regarding the candidates (normally I go to JibJab, but for US election comedy, but there is nothing there so far) and found this video with Obama Girl. I found later on that Hilary also had an 'admirer' and, so did McCain (yes I was bored, or rather in need of procrastination). There seem to be more positive videos about Obama and they are more popular (get more hits) than other candidates.

I voted Obama though I'm not exactly sure why, I think America may still be too racist to accept a black president. I hope I'm wrong though.

    Re: Obama or McCain?

he's not though. or wasn't. go back 10 years, and he was the opposite of bush - a progressive conservative. the "maverick" of the party. still an angry nut, unquestionably, but very very different to bush with it

he's completely changed in the last few years, and even the last few months, to get the republican nomination. all the things he's stood for in the past he's changed his mind over, to meet the bush line. last year, he voted the same as bush on 100% of topics in the senate.

EDIT by Saracen - I've removed the direct image link. That image is too large and distorts page display. It's 1597 x 776 pixels, and that width is too large. If you want an inline image, No.72, can you resize that to a sensible size (that doesn't require people to scroll pages left to right just to see it) please. Meantime, people can still use that URL to see it.

    Re: Obama or McCain?

This election has been a foregone conclusion since McCain got the nomination. The democrats just had two unelectable candidates. This country is too racist and too sexist. (And overwhelmingly Clintonist, the woman stirs up hate you wouldn't believe!).
I'm pleased when I see an Obama'08 sign that's only been overpainted with a hammer and sickle, and noting worse!

    Sadly McCain will win.

Yup. I love the way the public think they've got a choice in the matter to be honest.

    /Tin foil hat

Which of the following have never been a president of the US?

    1) A woman
    2) A black man
    3) An all American war hero

So you pit the two that haven't against the one that has, under the guise of democracy and the one that has inevitably wins. Then again, if you believe that democracy controls the US government then you're pretty naive in my mind. Be it industry, corporations or something more sinister I firmly believe that there is some body above el prez pulling the strings and this whole election is a farce just like the last two.

The last two elections were rigged, butchered, stolen and hung out to dry and yet despite the screams of foul play he still got into power. We don't even talk about it these days, it's just "one of those things" - funny isn't it? Scary more like! How the world allowed a man to steal an election to become the most powerful "leader" in the free world - then watched him march off to war with empty promises and hollow reasoning. All that's come of it is a heightened state of public fear of the Muslim world, oil prices through the roof, dollar at an all time low, travel restrictions, and a general loathing of the west.

However, some people got rich from all of this and I'm willing to bet it was those with interests in the energy and defence sectors - most likely administrative members of the US government and their respective cronies.

I'm going for Obama to win the election, but I'm not too sure if he has the balls to step out of line and be his own president. If he does he might get shot, look what happened to Kennedy.

TBH I dont think the president has much power in the US nowadays, he's more of a figurehead then anything.

    Re: Obama or McCain?

Are you lot reading the question properly or answering a different one?

The poll question asks - Who do you think will win?

Not - Who do you want to win?

So 80% of you think Obama will actually be the next Pres, yes?
