Because there's oil there. They don't need it, we do.

Oh, no ... wait, I forgot; we're "doing the right thing*".

Re: Latest: UN 'to back anti-Gaddafi action'

I'd also be interested to see their plan to stop the mad prick (hey, a spade's a spade right?) trashing/burning all the oil fields a-la Iraq in the '90s without putting troops in.

I mean, the mans probably damned fool enough to carry out (or attempt to) his threat to all civilian air and maritime med traffic, there's no way he won't try and trash the oil.

    Edit:

Hrm, the Beeb is reporting a ceasefire...stalling tactic, or is it over I wonder. My gut says the former.

Let's face it, the UK/US acts as the globe's police force because it's in their best interests to do so. Particularly in the US and to a lesser extent the UK, our arms industries are worth a significant fraction of the GDP.

Of course we'll end up with our troops on the grounds as "peacekeepers", and you can also bet that all those shiny toys we sold Saudi Arabia will get used sooner or later.

Look, we can't just standby while some despotic lunatic bleeds the people of their lifestyle and threatens their children with poverty and debt. The man speaks with a forked tongue.

Foghorn Clegghorn will just have to go .

I think that the public should be consulted, though I am not so sure that it would be a one sided opinion between "None of our business" nor the "Doing the right thing".

But regarding the oil, it -is- everyone's business in the foreseeable future. How much of the population will suddenly change their mind were oil price rise 10, 20, or 50%?

Besides, do the US/UK/et al. help themselves with the natural resource as they will once a resemblance of order is established? Or do they negotiate with the new government?

Re: Latest: UN 'to back anti-Gaddafi action'

This is going to expand into the middle east, WW3 at our door step. Libya will turn into another iraq unstable country that will destabilise the rest of the region. At least under Mr G you knew what was going on and it was controled now its hell on middle east.

I though this was a no-fly zone but obviously it isn't:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12795971

I did not know that ground vehicles could fly in the air under their own power.

The French must be pissed off that Libya did not buy any Rafale fighters in the end!!

The resolution gives UN forces leave to take out air and ground units attacking civilians.
