WTF is going on in our schools? This poor girl has taken it remarkably well although I suspect she doesn't fully understand the gravity of her injuries. I hope the perpetrator is punished properly.

    Sadly so...

One wonders what would cause them to become so violent in the first place? But isnt that the beauty of humans, sometimes they come from the most normal, stable backgrounds you can imagine and yet they still do drugs, drink like fish, and beat up random people.

I'll also place a bet that by next month all sharp metal objects will have a 0% tolerance policy attached to them if used violently.

Its hardly new this, but its the fact the schools are so concerned in trying to get people to pass 5 GCSEs they miss the important things (a data projector won't help, only extra teachers can).

Shes obviously come from a poor background, im in 6th form at the moment and i've seen people from decent backgrounds go the wrong way. They dont turn in to violent drug taking scum until about 14/15 in general so this dirl most likely has her parents to blame

Parents arent to blame for everything. I do wish people would stop using that as a cop out.

Wrong. Its how you are brought up thhat determines how you behave IMHO. Most people instill values of whats right, wrong, and very wrong in their kids. Some dont. Hence the above.

mostly true yeah, its not a cop out to 'just blame the parents' IMO either

Being a media studies graduate (well A-level) we studied this as a module, 'Behavioural Interaction With The Media' they called it. After many theorists and many studies, of whom's names ive long forgotten, it shows the parents are the largest factor in how a childs issues of what is right and wrong are formed. Although the BBC article doesnt mention anythign about the attacker though in much depth, it coudl have been that the attacker watched a few too many 'scary movies' or 'scary TV shows' television was the second biggest 'Behavioural Stimulator' behind parents and friends.

facts aside, stick the attacker in Juvenial hall for a while as well, needs her temper see'ing to!
    Under Development...

What I found horrific about this incident is the apparent creativity demonstrated by the evil perpetrator. Allegedly, she used the blade from a pencil sharpener. Now, call me a bit thick, but a 12-year old girl does not dream that up whilst sitting in class. She must have been been exposed to a violent lifestyle outside of school.

There is something very disturbing about the direction our society is headed. A few months ago I was on a slow train within London and a group of children, aged between 7 to 10, were running through the carriages. As they were going through the carriage I was in, they decided to trash the toilet in that carriage. I got up and told them to stop and they told me to f-off! The other passengers were pretending to read their books/newspapers out of fear!

Taz, 12 year old girls have imagination, sat bored, un challenged, un connected in class, playing with this sharpner. Dosen't take much imagination to think to use that. I also doubt it just been her, others will of some way approved of her doing it (or so she'll of thought) judging by the profile from what the papers have said about this.

mr anderson, surely by that logic access to media is still a parent controlled thing, bad parents sit their child infront of a TV and use it like a pacifier.

Of course they do, between that and letting them roam the streets not really caring about what they are doing, or who they are mixing with

Agreed. You can take families from the most deprived backgrounds and their kids can be some of the most Conscientious, hard working, decent people around but they almost allways have decent parents that put a lot of effort into brining up their kids.
There was a show on a while ago - I cant remember its name where the parents who felt they had lost control of their kids sent them off to some american boot camp thing. The kids were all middle class and all of teh parents were either too scared or lazy to do anythnig about their kids. So they paid someone else to do their parenting for them
