    the simple line is this,

If you beleive that animal testing is wrong then you should never take any drug connected with it. Ever taken an Aspirin or Paracetamol?

I can bet that if a person who is anti-animal testing is diagnosed with a life threatening disease and they have to take medicin/drugs that were tested on animals in order to survive they would do so.

I watched my Gran deteriorate due to Alzheimer's. It is not a pretty sight and one of the worst things I can imagine happening. Any research that needs to be carried out on animals to help cure or relieve the symptoms of Alzheimer's is worth it.

Animal "rights" activists are nothing but thugs. If they don't like testing to be carried out on animals they should volunteer themselves for testing.

I tottally agree 100% with you there. It looks like my Gran is beginning to get Alzheimers too, few years now, been getting worse all the time, slowly but surely .

PETA's hardly an example of sanity though - they have an 85% rate for putting down animals at their 'rescue centers' (US average is 5%), senior members were jailed a few years back for dumping animal carcasses (from the 'rescue centers') in the bins at local mcdonalds', and they're fruity enough to have tried to convince Hamburg and Frankfurt to change their names with the promise of free veggie burgers for all citizens for life

yeah yeah, thats the food chain, different story.
i must say, what i am really against is animal testing for cosmetice/shampoos etc. As if we dont have enough varieties of shampoo already; dry hair, long hair, frizzy hair, blond hair ... wtf! why cant we have one simple bloody shampoo! Its because the manufactors are wanting to make money, and want people to buy their product! Same applies with makeup. I buy all my makeup and shapoo which is against animal testing! Its not right. It isnt compulsary for women/girls to wear makeup, so why put an animal through tourture to make products like that! I suppose you could say it is different with medicines though ...

Mish: it's simply the society we live in. Capitalism is about enterprise and profit. Hence, companies will try and sell you as many products as possible. They'll keep on doing this whilst consumers keep buying them.

Now here's an interesting concept. In the gool old US, you can take your pets into salons for a makeover! The products used for grooming your pets are tested on other animals. Is that morally acceptable?!

Anyway, it's not just cosmetics and pharmaceutical products that are tested on animals. Detergents and building products are also tested on animals (or some chemicals within them at the very least). Even if you are careful to the n'th degree about buying products that have not been tested on animals, if you look around your home you will find things that have been produced after being tested on animals.

The products themselves may not have been tested on animals but all the ingredients will have been. Its not worth the potential lawsuits for them to not test. Not to mention that all drugs/medications HAVE to be tested on animals by law.

I agree that Vivisection taken to extremes is wrong but some testing HAS to be carried out, I would much rather prefer that a couple of rabbits or a lab rat get seriously inconvenienced than a couple of humans get blinded or burned by soap/shampoo.

Not quite true about the cattle.
They can stand around and walk for a long time afterwards.
To kill them, they put the bolt through the brain, and then "pith" it. Pithing it is akin to sticking a whisk in there and giving it a good beating. That is what kills them

EDIT: Typo (I spelt whisk wrong)

If mice were in charge, do you honestly think they wouldn't test on us?

I'm pro animal testing for use for drugs and other things to aid suffering, but certainly not for vanity resons.
